when you say it says so on the bow, do you mean the name titanic? if so the letters on the ships names can be switched. they were only bolted on

Well it was, though it was rare, but on that scale it wasn't reliable and strong enough in those days. Welding was only an emergency construction method, but I do think there was some welding on her though, the expansion joints, IIRC.

So they could have used it for something as relatively simple as welding on the name. But I have no knowledge of this to be honest, nor a desire to look it up.  ;D

gigantic is the origonal name for the britannic which currently is lying on her starboard side at the bottom of the kia channel.
