Im confused,

i thought when you download pacth 1.1 it asked for your licence key when you open ship sim
But it didn't

i don't think it a problem
but i thought its good to bring it up

Hmmm, it asked for mine, was your SS08 the download version, maybe that is different?

I noticed aslo with the new patch it didnt ask me for my serial number

and I have the download-version.
Did you have installed beta 1.1 (without deinstalling) and thats why he didnt ask?

I have the download version, too. I uninstalled the old version, which had the beta patch, and I reinstalled the download version, then the final patch and mission editor. But, when I opened up the game, it did not ask for me to enter anything. In fact, my weather presets and custom missions were still there, too.

Hiya all

I believe this is because you have left your profile and mission information intact.  This is most likely the reason for you not being asked for your licence key

If you use Windows Vista, your license key is saved even when you uninstall the game. That could be the explanation.

check that you have not made a typing error, do you get a message saying that the license key must be in the format XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX or just that it is not valid?

I think maybe a moderator or administrator would be the right persons to help you with this

I don't think so, because I'm using XP Home Edition.
It's probably just some basic files that get left behind in the uninstallation.

Could you try registering your license key in your forum profile as explained in the Forum FAQ, and PM me when you've done that? I can take a look at it then.

@ Hudizzle, we know about the situation and it hasn't been tracked down completely yet. I'll make sure the appropriate people will take a look at it after the weekend.

did a search of the tinternet today and was amazed at the amount of sites allowing you download for free and on the forums people on nearly a weekly basis giving out license keys to access the game. I expect we are going to get an influx of people claiming to lose their license keys as accounts are banned and licence keys deleted. I think a major security update is required to prevent this

Then you should have the licence key already, you don't need Vstep to give you a new one. Do you have a manual for the game?

If you have a valid license key it should work. If you have a invalid/illegal key, it won't work. Simple as that.

Also read and do this:

If your licence key is being stated as not valid, there must be a reason for this.  Where did you buy the game from?

from a game shop.. cant u people just give us the licence key ? we need to play the patch.

If you bought the game, then as Captain Kool stated, you will have a licence key.  Making requests for someone to give you a licence key on these forums is not a good idea, so refrain from doing so.
