Ship Damage and Sinking
« on: January 26, 2011, 02:53:18 »

Since the last updates in Ship Simulator Extreme, I can no longer cause damage or sink any ships.  This there a setting somewhere to adjust this?

Thanks!

Hi Owen, welcome to the forum.

The system is adapted to prevent small ships and such to do damage to bigger ships, among other things. This helps prevent 'ramming' on MP servers and such. But also makes it a big more realistic. Ships were sinking too fast of too little damage.

Under the 'right' circumstances though, ships should still take damage and sink, but it now depends differently than before, on the mass and size and such of the ships in question, as to how much damage is done, and to which ship.

And nope, this can't be set differently.

Plus, the game is not about causing damage and sinking, anyway. Quite the opposite actually.  ;)

Regards,
Fred

They do, in fact, sink in the right circumstances.  I managed to sink my Fortissimo the other day plowing through heavy seas at too high a speed.  It crested one wave, went airborne, and stopped and then sank after hitting the oncoming wave crest in mid-hull.

So kudos to VStep for getting it to a much more realistic state than it had been in earlier versions of SSE.

I had posted this somewhere else, more realistic is good but to be able to take a ship (for this example POR and the coast guard cutter) and at full speed ram them into both each other and an ice pack and recieve no damage is a little rediculous... if you want no damage then uncheck the box or have a realism setting that makes the ship more or less sensitive to damage. no SSE is not about sinking ships but in real life If i take my 21 foot bayliner and nail a rock at 31 mph... according to SSE nothing would happen I would just fly for a few seconds and then land in the water and keep going... a little off i think.

Big fan of the series, I bought 2006/08/NH/SSE and unfortunately I have to say SSE is the one that least met my hopes/expectations. and I think this was a big part of that.
