As long as your operating system recognises your joystick you can use any joystick you wish. All you will have to do is configure ShipSim 08 to use the joystick   :)

Give me a shout if you need to know how to assign the controls  ;)

I'm using my Momo racing wheel.
Works perfect and underlines the illusion that I'm a helmsman. ;D

I use a gamepad with 2 analogue controls, it is ideal for twin engine ships / boats as both engines can be controlled independantly.  It is great for the smaller vessels in SS08, but to be honest I prefer to use the mouse / keyboard for the bigger ships.

Saitek Aviator is one that I have and can recomend! Has two throttle leavers (one for each engine ;)) it's great on both big and small ships!

I use the saitek X52, its got a lot of programmable buttons; so you can don't have to use the keyboard so much.. :)
