missing water

I installed the demo version ShipSim Extremes and when I loaded it, there seemed to be water but it was not visible. My full copy of ShipSim08 works fine, on the same computer. Thanks for your help.

You could try to attach your DXDiag to a post so we can have a look what the problem could be. You also could attach a screenshot of that situation.

Thanks - couldn't find a DXDiag file anywhere on my computer, but here's a screen shot:



You can see the boats propellers, and the water has no waves or texture.

To attach a DXDiag follow this instructions:

Press the Windows key and R simultaneously
in the appearing box type dxdiag
run all possible tests
click on "save all results" and choose a good to remember location (desktop)
make a post and attach the dxdiag.txt file the same way as you attach a picture (additional options/browse(to your desktop) highlight dxdiag.txt and click on open.
Finaly click on Send

Don't worry about personal information. This will not be included in the D(irect) X Diag(nostics).

Hi Carl,

For future reference, if you go to "Additional Options", then select "Browse" from the Attach bar, select the file you want to upload and press select, then it will be added to the post.

Ahoy Carl,
First of all, because nobody else did till now, I'll bid you a cordial welcome to this forum.
Now for the bad news  
Your system is not able to run SS Extremes in a proper way. You are lucky to be able to run the game at all.
Why? You need with a Windows Vista system at least 3 GByte Ram memory. Alas you got only 2046 Bytes = 2 GByte.
And if that isn't bad enough, your Graphic card 'borrows' 767 Bytes of memory from your system memory and that leaves you just 1,25 GByte. So that isn't enough
Your Graphic drivers are also far outdated (june, 3rd 2008) to update those drivers go to the ATI site
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
But I'm not sure that will help.
I'm not familair with the ATI graphic cards family, so I don't know if your card is above or beneath the minimal specs ( http://www.shipsim.com/products/shipsimulatorextremes ) An Ati Radeon HD4850 is minimal needed

Anyway, I hope you have info enough.

Hi Carl,
As Aad said, welcome to the forum.
I think that your graphic card may not be up to the job either unfortunately.
It was first produced in 2006 and is compared in all the benchmark tests with a Nvidia 7900 GS.
It is better than the Nvidia card but I think that it would not reach the minimum 3DMark of 6000. I couldn't check this as the futuremark site seems to be under some reconstruction. You could go there and test your card though, here is a link. You will be redirected by another link to a place where you can test it.

I upgraded to Vista SP2, which allowed me to install another 2 GB RAM..............and NADA.

Even though my DXDiag showed DirectX 10 was installed, testing with 2 different video benchmarking apps, both said:  "Hardware does not support Direct 10X" 

Further checking my vid card (XP1950 Pro), it became apparent where the problem was - XP1950 Pro supports DirectX 9, but no higher............

Ordered a new video card from NewEgg tonight, should have in a few days, and will keep you posted.
