Where is the simulator?
« on: December 11, 2010, 02:17:01 »

I very disappointed with the game, where is realism in this game? Things i like to be created;
a simulated radar, i mean gain A/C sea & rain, vrm and ebl, range rings. And how about an arpa-radar. autopilot.
The radar ATM is totally crap. And how about ECDIS? C'mon the game need to be called ship game extremes. Not simulator!

I noticed you are talking about SHIP SIMULATOR PRO  :o. It's a gray spot that still questions me and it's confusing.VSTEP has made an SS PRO but they say it's for companies who want to train up their people. And the also make Ship Simulator Series for Us members which as you said, it looks a bit un-polished. But the thing is SS Pro is a proper ship simulator. Sooo much confusions still after 2 years  ??? ??? ??? ???

it's actually not all that hard mate and he's not really referring to nautis either I reckon..

the word simulator does not mean the same thing in a game/entertainment related fashion than it does in a commercial simulator for professional training kind of way. it's the difference between entertainment and education. You also can't become an airline pilot by just playing FSX.  :P

There is not a single 'grade' for how much accuracy or reaslism or such is involved, when this word is used.

Some valid points on Crashstop's part though, and of course also a welcome to the forum to you!

But, do keep in mind, that at a certain price, not everything that a real educational simulator that costs many thousands to tens or hundreds of thousands delivers, will be present in a simulator that is meant for the entertainment industry and costs a few tenners. If that was possible, those others wouldn't costs so much money.

I have a shelf full of games that bear this titel 'simulator', and only a few come close to being true simulators, and yet none of them really are, compared to what the 'real world' uses to train professionals. They are still games at the end of the day.  :)

The word has no one value or meaning, it's a broad spectrum. If it simulates or recreates something that takes place in the real world, then it's a simulator. Easy as that. But to what extend and how realistic, that depends on the content and as well, on the pricetag.

Having said that, there are some nice sim features that I do miss in SSE, which hopefully will be included, to get it up to par with what some other 'entertainment simulators' offer. I grant you that.  :)

Regards,
Fred

If you compare Ship Sim with Flight sim.
Microsoft worked 25 years on the series before it was that realistic in FSX.

If you look in that perspective, the ShipSim game is already pretty advanced in the past 4 years it is in development but it is far away from normal playable.

I wouldn't say that the game is far from playable. Sure it has it's bugs and flaws, but i already spend quite a few hours on navigatig the vessels around in the various environments. That was even without the patches, since i don't have acces to them while i'm at sea.  :)

I'm not saying this as a moderator or beta tester but as a fan of the series which i still am at the first place  :)
