I'm a new SSE Recruit!
« on: November 04, 2010, 22:04:24 »

Ahoy mates!
I'm patiently waiting for my "Ship Simulator Extreme" to be delivered, and decided to do a little exploring in the process.
Never having had a ship sim before; I do have Flight Sims, Racing Sims, Trainz Sim 2010 and MSTS1 sim, but not a ship sim. That's kinda funny afterall, I was a sailor for 9 years in the Royal Australian Navy; [1964-1973].
I do have a couple of questions as I wait thought...
1. I have noticed a couple of different SSE covers, and one marked UK... What's the difference?
2. In exploring this site, I went to "The Shipyard" and looked around. There's lotsa goodies for SS'08 and I wondered if any of those are included in SSE or if they are compatible?
3. Update 1.2.2... Should I wait to download that update [and its Fix] incase my new software might be build version 1.2.2?
Cheers.

Hi Vernon,

Welcome to the forums!

To answer your questions:

1. Nothing. All the games should be exactly the same.
2. Nothing that worked with SS08 will be compatible with SSE. The games are completely separate although there will be downloads available for SSE in the coming months.
3. I would download the update for the game ready, so that when you install the game, you can patch it straight away rather than waiting. The patch also fixes lots of bugs and issues.

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Adam

Thanks Adam for your fast response.  :)
I'll take your advice and download the update [and Fix] so that I'll be ready.
5-9 days and counting! :)

Cheers for now

Welcome, vernongt! :)

Thanks mate,
Happy to be here; be happier just as soon as my SSE arrives though! :)
Perhaps you could explain for me what's all this about "Steam" version??
Adam said they're all pretty much the same when I asked about different labels on the "boxed Versions."

Can you enlighten me on this one?

Cheers.

Hi Vernon,
Welcome to the forums!
Regards,
Adam
G'day Adam,
I've come up against a brick wall.
I received my SSE boxed version in the mail. This morning I installed it. :( In the middle it began an upgrade/update which placed my "Fair Access Policy" in overload and placed me in the 'Penalty Box' [luckily we had a "Get out of Jail FREE" coupon]. Anyway, after the download completed, I tried to launch the SSE and a window came up that just said SSE and Vstep and just scrolled and scrolled - the Task Bar showed "ChannelLinker.dll" I got sick of waiting [30 mins] and right-clicked-Close on that and "MeshSaver.dll" then "CustomCommand.dll" then "ChannelCallerSwitch.dll" then "QuestViewer" What's on???  ???

Hi Vernon,

I had quite the same problem when I was installing SSE for the first time. This is due to some "dll errors". Please click on the link below, which will take you to a You Tube video clip and it will guide you as to how to get past this issue. It is the discovery of another Forum member.

I have also attached some text related to the problems you are facing from the Ship Sim web page FAQ section and you may find some solutions there too. If you are using Windows 7, I would advise you to disable your anti virus software temporarily and also use the "administrator" status to install SSE.

Sincerely hope this helps.

As for the "Steam" version, this is just a way to download the entire software from the Steam website instead of buying a DVD version This is a very legal method and also approved by Vstep and involves a payment by credit card. I have attached a screenshot of the home page of Steam to give you a lead. You can also see the screenshot for what occurred when I googled Steam.
