Dumb throttle?
« on: September 11, 2010, 12:24:21 »

What's with the throttle in sse, it's retarded, you can't use bot engines at once with the mouse.they should really have kept the throttle control from ss2008

you have to set it in 'options' i 'controlls' to Realistic steering, if you press up-key, both engines will give the same power, for example 14%

Hi guys,

I think the Martman is referring to when you use the mouse. You cannot control two throttle controls with a single mouse click. I find this rather annoying too, since the throttles are made to be able to me move with a single hand.

Yes, that is what I'm saying, you can't control both throttles with the mouse and you have to use the mouse to put the throttle down permanitly to go forward with no pressing of the forward button

If you press and hold down the "Shift" key you can then advance or reverse the throttles together, incrementally, (i.e. A bit at a time.) with the arrow up/down keys. Release the Up/down key BEFORE releasing the shift key.

“Controlling Azimuth Drives” explains the use of the arrow keys for controlling other propulsion systems as well.

actully i like the fact of independant throttle controls and i do think this is one of the more realistic things but it sometimes is hard to get them lets say for example 50% on each of the controls

Don't foget though that you should be able to move them together, since most if not all dual engine vessels will by design have the ability for you to control them together as a single throttle control.

So actually, moving them together is also realistic ;)

When I'd like to put the throttle at exactly 25%, it takes some time before the actual setpoint reaches 25%. The same when I'd like to reset the throttle at 0%, it takes also some time before the engines reach 0%. Very clumsy. In SS08 the engines listen immediatly to the desired throttle setpoint.

Yep MokMok, realistic engine latency is one of the points where SS Extremes is much more realistic !

Why must the engines have a latency when operating the throttle?

A ship engine is not a car engine .... RPM increase takes seconds, it's not immediate.

I just wish there was a indicator to show what the engine RPM will be, instead of guessing

If the throttles were notched, as in a diesel locomotive or ships with engine telegraphs, it might be easier.

Hi Salty,
They didn’t have that trouble on R/V Argo either, where the intercom replaced the throttle. The Bridge would call the Engine Room for “turns for 7 knots”.
In addition to support for Track IR, we need voice recognition.

Marty
