New SSE ocean system
« on: August 11, 2010, 15:39:44 »

How does the new ocean system work?
Can we talk about currents, wind influence... which will affect the maneuverability of ships? Not only in the port but especially at sea. For instance, reckon with currents and wind influences while entering and leaving a port?

Was there a ocean system in SS2008? This had little effect on ships, no?  Can we compare this new ocean system with those of SSpro 2.0?

Who can give more info on this subject?
Will this new ocean system work on the multiplayer server?

Hi krisostend,

Details about the new ocean system in SSE will have to come from VSTEP, probably when SSE is released.
The ocean is more like that in Nautis (SS Pro) than the one in SS08, and will be the same in MP as in free roam and missions. Probably the sea state on MP servers will be kept fairly low.

Hi Marty

It would be great to see the weather change (wind and currents) from time to time on the MP servers.

Hi Krisostend,

while the visual rendering of the oceans will be improved, it has already been discussed on this forum, about tides, winds, and currents effects. Extremes will not simulate that, from what we know at this time.

Hopefully VStep will give us the info on this very soon now, whilst it makes sense to hold those details back whilst the game is in production (in case something doesn't make the final cut), it makes no sense at all to keep quiet about it now that the game has officially gone gold... now it's time to shout about the game's features from the rooftops.

BDW the game are not in production jet we are still testing it and fix bugs and so it can be finished in good time before the realize

The new VSTEP ocean system(currents, wind) already exists, have a look at SSpro 2.0 2009
There are a lot of sailing simulations where the player can set the desired currents, winds, tides, wave heights in environments: Virtual Sailor, Vechicle Simulator, Nautis ... have this option.

Have a look at youtube for SSpro 2.0 (Nautis) they talk about open sea current, current direction, wind direction .... There you can see a smal vessel in Dover, the vessel is blowing backwards, by the strong winds.
Ship is drifting away when she wants to leave Dover....
You can set open sea currents, current direction, current differences inside and outside the port and a lot more......

Have a look: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUGOwanE0RA&feature=channel

VSTEP has this option from 2009 in his Ship Sim simulator, why can this weather simulation not be used in SSE2010? It already exist, why not use it in SSE2010? This would certainly benefit the Calais-Dover scenery. Otherwise it makes me think that SSE2010 is an add-on for SS2008, just like new horizons.

I'm sorry guys, but I can not pay 4000 euros for SSpro/Nautis.

The new ocean system was one of the landmarks for Ship Simulator Extremes 2010!
But I am a littel disapointed...

All existing sailing simulators have this options (currents, wind ...)
Has this all something to do with the commercial policy, marketing?
It wouldn't make sense as the professional user can do the same with the game version.

I hope that this new ocean system will be worth his name.

Yes, we can just hope...  :C

I found this:
The new ocean system goes about new ocean settings, only the visual aspect.
Those new ocean settings include:

Water collor, brightness
Under water settings
Wave hights
Wave Speed
...

The player can set or adjust those new ocean settings in the game.
This makes the ocean/sea more realistic, but this will not change
ship behavior, a simulation about currents and wind is
not yet added in SSE(pity!!!!!!!). The visual aspect will change, the
rest is the same as SS2008. A perfect storm in SSE will be to
perfect, your ship will not drift away, she just goes a little more
up and down...

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it....

They are not going to give you everything that they have on a 4000euro simulator. If they did then why would anyone buy the 4000euro simulator when they could just buy this for 40euros. No bussiness sence doing that. Why can't some people be happy with what they are offering instead of complaining they want more just weeks before release and bashing the game because they find posts saying it won't have what they want before it is even out.

Hi Guys
again I think people forget Nautis(sspro) is not a game but a simulator made for the client
Navy ,shipping company, collage to train there people in maritime situations.
Extremes is a game for the public us to enjoy wether age 6 or 60 you can enjoy sailing ships
so extremes is for all ages.
And yes I would like to see wind tide and all the other things thats on the wish list

Virtual sailor is not a 4000 euro sailing simulator, it costs you only 30 euros.
It contains a realistic weather simulation (wind, tides, currents, ...)
VS is more extremes than SSE.

SSE goes about the visual aspect and not the content, that has not changed much
compared to SS2006.

It wil be extremely if you want entering a port with hig winds, waves and currents.
That will make that you ship wil drift away, you have to go to Dover with bad weather,
than you know what I mean.

In SSE perfect storm your ship will simply move more up and down, it will certainly not drift away.
A perfect storm? no!

You shall have not often been on a real boat, to find anything realistic in virtual sailor.

Ships behaviour has always been totally cranky. I expected Vehicle Simulator - the new version of VS - to be more realistic, but it definitely isn't.

Virtual Sailor / Vehicle Simulator can not pretend to be realistic simulation.

Ship Simulator doesn't take wind and current into account, indeed - but at least, all that is actually included is realistic.

Taking wind and sea currents into account in SSE, will demand much higher requirements for your PC hardware than the requirements of SSE now.

I dont say that Virtual sailor and vehicle Simulator are more realistic
than Ship simulator 2008 (and Ship simulator 2010, otherwise I would not
have bought SSE), I very like SS2008 and maybe SS2010! But there are some
things that are more realistic in VS and vice versa. We don't know a
lot about the new ocean system, there are many people who whants more clearity
abou it, because it was one of the landmarks for SSE 2010.

I just hope that the new Ocean System comes close to things we find in SSP 2.0.
current, wind...

The price between SSP(with currents..) and SSE(without currents...) can not be compared,
the price difference is somewhere else, SSP is more than just currents and winds.
See the difference between SSP/Nautis and SSE:
