Shipsim 2008 - Ship Models
« on: August 27, 2007, 13:13:35 »

Hi!

Since last saturday i'm owner of a official retail copy of Ship Sim 2008.
I allready have the previous version of the SS 2006.
A generic coparison of the two versions, make me do some comments:

Some ships of the SS2006 where put away. Container vessel, and low hulk cargo vessel for exemple.
The speed boat also changed colour.

Why the ships from the upgrade pack (Modern Cruise Ship, Fishing Ship, ...) are not included on the 2008 new version?

By the other way the ship models of 2008 have missing parts.
Where are the signal masts and radar anthenas of the Container Vessel, the petrol tanker?
Why the funnels (chimneys) of these two ship are so strange????
Ship Sim crew don't have photos of real ships for making the models????

In other simulators like Train Simulator or Flight Simulator, the main goal its to reproduce accuratelly the real models.

I beleeve that the Ship Sim enthusiasts community wants the same!
I love ship models that I can compare with the real thing, that have the same aspect, the same properties.

We need evolution, like in the real world.

I'll like to ear some comments from the Ship Sim Crew.
Thank You  :)

Greetings

i will answer one of your question about the Ship Simulator 2006 add-on pack, later this year those ships will be avalible for SS08, if you already have the SS06 Add-on pack you can put the ships in for free.

Hi Eugénio Santos :)

As Master Captain said, the add-on vessels for SS08 will be available later this year, please read the FAQ for further details: http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,955.0.html

You are right about the masts and antennas, and they are not only missing on the two ships you mention, but also on several other ships. This will not be updated in the next patch, but perhaps in a later one. However, the patch will include animated radar scanners on some of the ships. These were also missing in v. 1.0.

The developers do have photos of the ships they create, but I guess the problem is that you cannot copy a ship design without the permission from the ship's owner. The two ships you mention are not actual ships, but of course the models are inspired of real ships...

If you search the forum you will find several discussions on this ship design issue. We would all love to see real ships and companies in the simulator, but it is rather difficult to get these permissions. Please let me know if you know of a company that might be interested in getting a ship in the simulator.  ;)

Kind Regards

Great looking ferries!

Before any modelling can begin, a permission must be provided by the owner of the ship. This is the most difficult part.

Then it's a question of whom should make the model. That could be VSTEP as well as an independant modeller making the model for VSTEP. You can read more about this here:

I have a lot of contact with ship owners/managers. I have
asked them several times abt this matter. My experience is that
they do not have a problem for giving me the drawings and dynamics of there ships.
However they do not want to be linked with the sim progam. So the name of the vessels
have to be changed aswell some specific details of the vessel such as the shape of the
funnel and/or colours of the vessels.

If you have the SS06 add-on you can download a SS08 version of the add-on when it's ready later this year. It isn't possible to add your own ships.

At least he has an excuse that he's a "n00b".  (using A/A's word)
