What sort of idiot makes that kind of thing public? I think he should be charged with all the damage he caused by the release of this info.

Yes, it goes for ever version of Windows XP, that means Home, Professional, Tablet edition.. anything that has the name "Windows XP" in the title. :)

@McGherkin, I'm sure he wasn't the first person to see it, hackers are constantly looking for bugs in Windows and most of the ones that find them would rather spend more time taking advantage than reporting bugs or telling others.

And, think about this.. if he hadn't made it public don't you think if they found out he knew that he could have been accused of being selfish? I think it was a wise move in the long run. :)

Thanks very much, SD.. spread the news.

Why? Windows XP is still fully functional and works just fine.

Anyway, I'd rather have Windows XP or even Windows 2000 than Windows 7, to be honest.. I like my operating system to work, not to be jacked up on eye candy.. once Windows XP goes off the market I'm done with Microsoft unless they make something better.. (and by better I mean with less eyecandy, and doesn't remind me of VISTA.. ::))

There's just a security hole in the Windows XP operating system and Microsoft is offering a patch/fix for it. :)

For those who used the "fix-it", now would seem a time to roll it back.. ;)

They have made, its called Windows 7

Eye candy sells, but the question is not just the eye candy, but functionality in which Win 7 is way better than XP.

Although I know little next to none about the technical side of computers, from someone who dislikes change and the idea of "If it aint broke don't fix it", even I have to say that XP is starting to get a little dated now...it just wouldn't make sense to get a top of the range system and put XP on it. As games and software advances, the operating system has to as well...they aren't going to make games suitable for XP forever, likewise with other operating systems, as time goes on,  I think.

[...]

Among a few good reasons :

- improved security features (UAC for example)
- DirectX 10 and 11 (XP only supports Dx9)
- improved memory handling
- 64 bits (although 64 bits version of XP exist, it has never been widely distributed)

And so on.

the external look of the UI is only the visible part of the iceberg ... You should not take this into account when comparing several OS, it's like comparing cars just by looking at pictures of the dashboards  :)

Well that's interesting. I'm a Windows 7 user and I have to say it's great. I myself reccomend it to others :) But remember, opinions are different (I am not responsible for your changing to Windows 7 and or damage to your windows computer :P )

UAC is the worst thing that has ever happened in the history of programming. Microsoft should be ashamed of themselves.
