Ahoy! What are you thoughts on building computers? I was thinking about building a computer, but I have never done it before.. Have any of you guys? What are the prices like to build a pretty good computer that can get good internet, and play good games/software etc. I have a laptop right now which is horrible with games, i cant play any SS08 =(

Building computers I would only recommend if you know what your doing. I'm in an advanced computer course at school, I've built 3 computers this year. I wouldn't recommend doing it if you have a slight doubt in yourself because if you make an error its an expensive one.

I have been building computers for my self and family since 1997. They are easy to build and a lot better than the cookie cutter jobs you get from HP, Dell and the likes.

I wouldn't recommend doing it if you have a slight doubt in yourself because if you make an error its an expensive one.

There is no need to have doubts.

These things are pretty much plug and play. Almost everything comes on the motherboard unless you pick one without video onboard. The hardest thing now a days is getting the cpu heat sink and fan on and those are nothing like what they used to be. There are no jumpers for setting cpu and ram frequencies now a days like there used to be.

Yes it is fairly simple but I'm looking from a standpoint of the "typical PC user" who doesn't knwo much about the components.

You are correct that not everyone needs to be building their own computers. That what the hp's and dell's are for. However I would think that if a person want's to try then why not.
