shipsimextremes.com
« on: March 27, 2010, 15:46:43 »

I just noticed in another topic that there is a site called shipsimextremes(dot)com. It is exactly like the normal ss website, shipsim.com. So what I want to know is if this is a site of Vstep or someone who is trying to copy it.
When I type the normal URL in www.shipsim.com it doesn't change name to shipsimextremes(dot)com, like it should do, if it was the same website.

that doesn't really answer the question, I typed that link in to the browser earlier and got the same result. But when I typed shipsim.com, the URL of the website should change shipsimextremes(dot)com, which makes it seem like we are talking about two different websites.
edit: Yeah, that is probably the closest fake I've ever seen if it is a fake.

shipsimextremes.com  and shipsim2010.com has been up for a while. Probably just holding off the adress so no one makes a site with that name while Vstep develops the game

It would be easier to reserve it though, just in case, I'd imagine. :)

Actually, most people don't worry about that, since a company like VSTEP can always buy a domain name off of someone who already has it. Everything usually works out. :)

Actually.. most serious companies reserve all kinds of relevant domain names just to cover a lot of angles and to prevent rival companies, or such, to take advantage of name brand familiarity and such. It's more common that they do, then that they don't. People that don't worry about it, end up spending too much money on it. The two gents above me are quite correct, I reckon.  ;)

'Things usually work out' is not a sound business plan. The opposite is true. In business, if you don't give it 200% to get what you want, things will most definatly not work out. The 'other guy' will run away with your ideas and the profits, if you're not one step ahead of him.  ;D

You are indeed correct Fred. Infact, I hold 3 domain names for the same company and I will continue to register them for more coverage ;)
