Topic: Why do so many people want Battleships and Aircraft carriers etc...? (Read 7336 times)

I have seen so many people saying this game is rubbish because it has no aircraft carriers or u boats or subs boat i don't know about you but i would find it really boring with that because it would come like one of those battle games with guns and fire etc and not a simulater.....i love all the normal boats like ferrys and rescue boats....

I totally agree with that, if I want a fight, I play one of the Battlefield games myself

Death & destruction weren't on my list of priorities when I first bought Ship Simulator 2006, I feel the same about 2008 too

There is so much that you can become in this virtual gaming world and at least you always can restart when you get killedâ€¦

I think it got something to do with the world we are living in. In the news every day we hear about killing, murders, war and death multiplied 10 times. I guess that do something with some of us, and we are seeking for it in some way. I guess itâ€™s about to having an adrenaline kick, the seeking of adventure, fantasy etc.

I have played many first-shooter games myself and they are all the same really â€“ flying around with your machine gun and look like Ramboâ€¦ jiiiii haaaa!!!

Well it just started to get boring and I found simulation much funnier. At least it gives me more knowledge. After I started to design ship models it just gave me more fun, making something and put it into a game by exploring it, improving it and move on to get something cool out of this 3D model. For me computer graphics is pure art and a major fantasy world where you can make everything.

If people cannot find action in life they probably find it in a computer game.

they don't need action, they only want a new type of a ship, i also said once that a aircraft carrier would be awsome, SS has cruise ships, titanic ferry's yachts but SS never made types of ships like that, i don't need working canons or a plane that can land or something like that, no one else said that ever.

I agree, why should a battleship in the game be used for war?
It manouvers the same as any other ship.
And I would love to pilot a modern destroyer, ... but without working gun's.

It is the same reason as why all those people like passenger ships, steamships, ...

I think the challenge of manuevering a CVN would be amazing... I don't care about the military aspects of it, I'm interested in sheer size and capability of the ship.

Great point Cpt,I didnt buy SS to fire guns etc I bought it for the challenge of maneuvering a big ship in a dock or rescuing peeps from the sea etc,if peeps want guns go buy BF1942 BF2 (which I did).Like I said the challenge is piloting a big ship or small out or into a harbour and mooring it,rescue or towing the oilrigs etc.

I agree with those who just want them to know what it's like to pilot the warships. I think you could have missions such as bringing in an old warship to a harbor to become a floating museum, maybe escorting other ships in dangerous waters, etc.

I think it would be great if there were warships in SS. There aren't any games out atm that allow you to realistically sail a warship, just arcadey ones like Dangerous Waters and Battlestations: Midway etc. They don't have to be able to shoot. It would be great to be able to navigate a huge aircraft carrier into a harbour. Or go on a routine night patrol around the English Channel in a looking for enemy U-Boats in a Destroyer.

i also want to say, that is is great to explore some kind of ships like that, that was mine reason to say that a aircraft carrier would be awsome

I would love to see some navy ships ingame, but not battleships and aircraft carriers, i would like some frigates, corvettes, patrol boats and mine hunters/sweepers, not to fight with but just to sail around with, these vessels are build to last in hurricanes, and can out manouvre allmost anything that floats, thats what makes them so interesting forme, not the shooting.

Would love to see a Dutch Royal Navy LCF or M-Class frigate ingame

You could create drugs and arms smuggling missions in the mediteranean and caribean

Resupply at sea missions with replennishment vessels like the A836 Hr. Ms. Amsterdam

And mine hunting missions in the North Sea, english channel and German bight.

Why? You can't see sh*t.
It would be to hard to dock that.

But those ships who Gertjan mensioned are verry attractive

I allways ask myself, why do all those people like cruiseships?
To me they are the most ugly ships of the world, designed without taste.

I'd love to be able to sail around in some military ships in SS08. I don't have to be able to shoot things to appreciate having a nice ship to run around in.

I think it's perfectly appropriate to have military vessels in SS08.

There are plenty of military aircraft in the MSFS series that don't have working weapons, why would anyone choose to believe that just because a person wants a military vessel, they want to turn it into a fighting game?

That's not what I thought when I wrote my post above. But I think we have so much war and terrorism on earth that anything to do with military is unnecessary in a simulation like ShipSim.
I understand people saying the technology of these ships is interesting but there are also other ships that are quite equal. For example coastguard ships doesn't look that grey and often have analog speed and steering possibilities.

The author of the question is the only one who said anything about shooting!
I think even the military haters in the crowd secretly would like to pilot a high speed Frigate, Destroyer or Coast Guard Patrol Boat running down smugglers, putting a landing craft on a beach between reefs. The Aircraft Carrier sounds like a big grey Cruise Ship to me however.

Ok my turn. I agree there should be military ships in the game & I agree there should be NO guns. I spent a few years in the Canadaina NAVY ( yes we have one ) & enjoyed piloting everthing from destroyers to frigates; mine sweepers to replenismnet ships & resue zodiacs to coastal patrol gate vessels. Every one is different & every one required a different set of skills. I would love to have the chance to pilot them again in simulation.
