Red Eagle and Vermass Structure Update
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:42:37 »

I did a long though and watched a lot of videos and looked around the net, and came up with a theory that RED EAGLE andVERMASS models should of been empty. Because realistically when we see a ship normally it would be carrying a certain type of cargo.SO I'm thinking VSTEP wanted to keep that image for the users so they can straight up feel the big load.

But I think realistically they should of came EMPTY because It makes more logical sense. Then when you would do a mission with the container loading, you don't want to focus on how many containers there are in total, what you want to focus on is you actually loading up safely each container. So then you would get an option of 10 containers to lift and place on the ship.Same will apply for Red eagle as well.

So overall, my request is to make a update to remove all the containers from Verrmass and all the cars and trucks from Red Funnel.Below is a rough image of what each would look like

Red Eagle is a double-ended Ferry.
In the game, she does have cars to transport; that is why she is not empty.

Yeah, she does but like every other ship she starts off empty then loads up.After a few thoughts, the funnel does seem to be in the right place, just was really difficult to picture it since both sides look very alike. That's one problem solved, I really have a strong feeling she should be empty

It is a bit tricky, but if you look carefully you will see that the two pictures are of different sides of the ship..
The model is ok.. :)

According to that argument, Vermaas should have no containers.

I was going to mention Vermass as well, but I would of though i had to start a new topic.Just making a few tweaks to the topic. It would be and make more logic to have Vermaas and Red Eagle EMPTY.Because I know that most people when they see a ship like any of those two, would contain a certain type of cargo so I'm thinking VSTEP wanted to keep that image, but realistically it then should of been Empty

THere should be an a option at the port that cars go onboard in the terminal and go off at the next terminal.

Third Mate,

If you have ever done any missions featuring either of those ships, you should know that most start with the ship ready to depart from a port where it is reasonable to expect that she has loaded.

This is becoming less of a serious suggestion, so I am moving it to Small Talk where it may have some entertainment value.

Also, since you have completely rewritten your original post and deleted others to avoid embarrassment, we should add you to the list of those whose posts should be quoted in full when replying.
That is bad forum etiquette, and reason to have every one of your posts flagged for reference.

Personally I would rather have the cars onboard Red Eagle, it makes it look more realistic when doing Crossings - ferries are very rarely empty - only when they are laid up (That would be a fun mission...  :sleepy:) or when they go to refit.

An empty ferry is a ferry companies worst nightmare (OK maybe not the worst...)

A vague & pointless theory, I'd say.  Normally & usually they arrive in port with one cargo & depart with another, which makes them normally & usually be loaded - just like Ferryman said.
When you do a container loading mission you're not focusing on how many containers there're already on board since developers' night shift.  To load them "safely" - that's up to your imagination & skills in controlling the crane.  The quantity of containers you can load is already done in SS.
If you're requesting an empty Vermaas, RE & the ability to load them full - then I'd suggest of getting a related to that real job which will at least bring you money.

the red funnel ferries are sometimes full however i've never seen them that full.

i would like VSTEP to change the direction that the cars are facing because it bugs me quite alot that when you sail forwad the cars are facing back

On most ferries the direction the cars face depends upon how she was docked when she was loaded. That is how double-ended ferries work.

Incidentally: That’s a fact often forgotten in RE missions, or in the way they are played.

i know, im just saying it would be nice if they change it so it faces forwad.

in real life there isn't a front and back because the captain steers from either side but on the game your fixed on one point in bridge view.

i know this is in small talk but i would like it if VSTEP would put in the bridge wing's controls shown in this picture that i took a few months ago

Which is what he was talking about ;)

It would not be necessary to take the cars off, it would just look ridiculous, plus, as TFM said, nobody likes an empty ferry ;)

In most missions with Red Eagle (its not called Red Funnel),you start the mission by leaving the port, therefore it has been loaded. It would be kinda stupid to have the vessel empty, it would be pointless, doing a crossing, and not letting anybody off the vessel, don't you think?

not sure if this was mentioned in the topic, even though I read it trough, might have missed it, but aren't container vessels also rarely empty? since they have many destinations and on load and offload at all destinations, ensuring that the ship always carries something.

Quite correct Minime, It is very unusual to see an empty container ship. The only time would be if it were undergoing a survey or when it was first into service before loading for its first trip, or on the way to the scrapyard ::).

I agree with what he is saying about having them empty. you may want to have a mission where you take them on sea trials. maby there could be two versions of the ship in the mission editer. one loaded and one empty

jonah am i allowed to say red funnel? because i live on the isle of wight we islanders call it the red funnel. since it is easier than saying either Red Osprey, Red Falcon or Red Eagle

Generally speaking though, Joe Public don't care if it is The red Eagle, the Red Falcon or even the Red Pidgeon, the name isn't important...

Unlike to us Ship Enthusiasts... ;D
