Is this a permenant opening, or just for some special events?

Never been to Rotterdam... Looks like a good excuse... Must pop in and say "Marmite" to a certain well known software company whilst there too!

Hoy,
Yes, this is always a good idea to safe some vessels from the scrapyard.SS Rotterdam is a very good example, together with the Cap San Diego.

That's the one in Hamburg isn't it Marc ?
Yes, the SS Rotterdam was rusting away in the Bahamas, untill some people fell in love with her and decided to save her and restore her to her former glory..Allthough the costs were much greater than expected, she is now a proud addition to Rotterdam and Dutch maritime heritage.. :)

Without wanting to go (too far o/t) the Americans are the best at keeping their old ships for museum purposes... There are several large WW2 warships, many older vessels etc... But it is mainly their warships they keep.

Alright, they loused up the QM1...

The SS Rotterdam looks a fine tribute to the Dutch maritime traditions though.
