Program to Skin Models
« on: August 19, 2007, 09:59:19 »

Hi !

I'm building a ship model of a containership. My aim was to make it as realistic as possible.
Now I don't know what program I could use the make GOOD textures.
My textures are not bad I think but not as sharp and exact as the EMMA MAERSK's textures, for example.

Can you tell what program I could use,
and how to make textures whith that program ?

By the way:
Is there any interest to include the model into the game ?
It has 55.000 polygons, complete walk-through and is realistic.
I have all information about the ship type.
Only the bridge has to be skinned, (because I don't know how to :) )

Greetz,

Adobe Photoshop CS (www.adobe.com) is the one if you are looking for the best.
I bet there are other programs too which cost less than Photoshop... make a search on the web. ;)

Very nice ship model by the way :)

wOOO

BV 1800, nice build I like this type of vessel due to her maneuverability.
Hope VSTEP add one of this in the future

About the photoshop look strait for the photoshop CS3, Particularly I use this program for magazines image edition and photo edition of the local surf magazines. I like when come the photos of the nice Spambot whom want to have their body looking nice without any spot on the skin and nice shape on the body.

look just a joke attached.

Cheers,

Oh I cud discuss that for ages... ;D
BTW, repainting textures is something you do with a 2D editor not a 3D editor (to be precisely) :)

You may want to look at this.

http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1071.0;attach=1622

It gives guidelines for adding 3rd party ships into the game.

I have to say, GIMP might be your best approch, I'm working on some good textures for my Tug the "Sea Horse" right now with GIMP and it looks pretty good. :)
