Inernet Exploret (IE) users are sugested to use Maximum Securety in the setings du to a securety bug I just heard it on radio.

Sorry if anyone already have posted this right now when I post it.

I have not got this confirmed by anyone apart form the news on the radio.

It's more complex than that (as always) and perhaps not as threatening. I won't be changing anything on my version of IE.

This is why Internet explorer fails compared to Firefox and Chrome. Do Microsoft ever learn?

In my opinion, not even in any aspect. Chrome is faster, and hasn't had a single major security issue yet. Internet Explorer has had what, 2 in the last few months? And it's incredibly slow too. Even the German government recommend we switch from Internet Explorer because it's so terrible.
Look Google is your friend, don't let Internet Explorer kill it.

as an extra precaution, consider using "firewall lockdown" when not using the internet, to prevent unwanted intrusions.

firewall lockdown is what macafee call it, i know norton call it something else, "block traffic" i think.
i'm sure most firewalls have something similar.

Who really 'knows' when a virus is coming out? I mean, there's hundreds of thousands of them, let alone the fact that they come out like, every day..

Speaking of which, I have the misfortune to have Norton... It seems it missed something dodgy (too busy telling me about cookies...)

I spotted it as my hard drive light was on a lot and the h/d was being read... So I switched off the wifi and the h/d stopped. I then checked with full scan (as it might have just been an innocent MS auto update) and it found a nasty...

BTW, if this isn't TOO far O/T (don't want to start a new topic for it) does Norton have any facility to tell it what programmes I do and don't want to access the 'net? It seems not.

I know a virus on the news, Swine Flu! (except nobody cares any more)

How to make a virus.

1. Wait till someone gets a cold.
2. Surround their house with paparazzi, who will take pictures of the person blowing their nose.
3. Give your virus a name. You should use H#N1, where # is a number of your choosing, apart from 5 and 1 (they've been taken already)
4. Secretly fly your cold sufferer to various destinations, and repeat step 2.
5. Give it a slang name. This should have the name of a dirty animal as the first word, and 'flu' as the second. The dirtier the animal, the more people are scared and buy face-masks and therefore the value of your shares in face-mask companies increases.
6. Make ludicrous profits.
7. Buy shares in a pharmeceutical company when the fuss dies down.
8. develop a 'vaccine' (any placebo will work)
9. Make ludicrous profits.

McG I am trying to work out if this is:

A) A joke

C) A brief synopsis of what generally happens each time a virus is 'discovered'.

Basically, that is about the truth of it. Thankfully here in Britain, we bought thousands of body bags in anticipation that 30% of the population would catch it. Thank Marmite that the old stiff upper lip is still there and strong!

I don't know about your virusscanner, Stuart..But you should be able to set that access thing in your firewall..
Going further OT, this guys says Windows has had a serious security hole for the past 17 years..
Don't know how much is in it..

I had no problem with my Windows 7 IE since 12/26/09. The only erroe is when I watch a certain amount of videos when in full screen only on YouTube, during video watching, the mouse and bar won't show when I move the mouse. That is the only bug I get for now. I am monitoring my Internet now and then for errors before I put Avast! on my PC, which will give that Ship Sim website error.

Sort of connected- this problem some people have reported about having to keep on signing into the forum- it has just started happening to me when I downloaded the last IE update that we are talking about.
