Helm position
« on: January 13, 2010, 13:59:47 »

I have just got Shipsim 08 and there is small problem that is bothering me. How can I change camera view from fwd helm position to aft helm position on AHTS vessel (and any other with this bridge layout)?

You can't - the bridge position is fixed.

The best thing to do is go into walk mode, but then you lose the key control option.

Thanks for quick reply.
I also have Ship Console and it is also useless in this case. If I go to walk mode than I can not use Console. So we have to hope that this will be solved in next edition.

Secondary controls work in SS Pro, it's not like they don't know how to do it...

This is something Vstep needs to sort out...

Hi Marijan,

Welcome to the forum!

As this was implented in Pro, and proven very handy, I suspect there is a good chance that this feature will find it's way into SSE aswell.

Can't make any guarantees, but it seems silly if it wouldn't.

But I don't suspect a patch for SS08 anymore.

Perhaps it can be achieved in one of the Creator's Forum addon packs, but that's one for Terry Russell to answer.

Kind Regards,
Fred

On the CF fixes, we've corrected problems in the aft controls (in some cases, they worked back to front), but there isn't any way to add a new helm position, which I think is what was being asked.

But you can access the aft controls by simply switching to camera position 3 (walkthrough mode) and walking to the aft controls. Then you can grab them with the mouse cursor and steer the ship. That isn't such a great imposition, is it?

Or do I misunderstand the original question?

The point is to control the ship while standing at the aft control position with your Ship Control Unit of joysticks. You can now only maneuvrer from there with your mouse in walk through mode.

The same would be nice, if you can operate the ship with your SCU or Joysticks while standing at the bridge wing.  :)

The point is to be able to use Ship Console while on aft bridge position as well as while on wings because in real world pilot and captain are on the wing and giving orders from there to officer and AB. In case of AHTS and PSV use of aft bridge controls is very common. Use of mouse is not so good as Console.

Sorry, but nothing I can do about that.  :'(

As I say, we've fixed the controls where they were faulty (Red Eagle and Sherpa, from memory). But sadly, I can't do anything to make keyboard or joystick contols work in walkabout mode.
