Version Frustration
« on: December 26, 2009, 07:31:48 »

(If I am asking this question in the wrong place or I've overlooked something obvious, please forgive my stupidity.)

I purchased Ship Simulator on Amazon a couple of weeks ago and I'm enjoying the heck out of it.  My only frustration is that I can't figure out what version (2008, 2006 or ?) I have.  The box art doesn't seem to match any of those shown on the ShipSim website and I can find no version information on the box, in the documentation or in the game itself.

I would like to know what I have for two reasons.  First, the game seems to be missing a location (San Francisco) described in the Amazon blurb, and second, I would like to download upgrades, but it appears that I need to know which version I have in order to do that.

About all I can add here is a description of the box art:  It shows the New York skyline in the background and the Statue of Liberty in the middle ground.  There are also three ships pictured (all moving from left to right.  The Titanic appears between the skyline and the Statue of Liberty.  In the foreground there are a large yacht and a Coast Guard harbor patrol boat (closest to the "camera").  The title across the top simply says, "Ship Simulator".

If any of you good folks can tell me what I have, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

Hi HackWriter,

It sounds a bit odd, to be honest.

I'm checking with Vstep to see if they recognise what you describe, and have a good answer for you!

I'll be in touch as soon as I hear from them. Due to the holiday season, this might unfortunatly take a little longer than usual, perhaps.

Kind Regards,
Fred

Here it is. Looks like the 2006 version, because the yacht and the Coast Guard vessel were only in that version.

Perhaps a special US edition. It would make sense to re-paint the small boat from the RPA colour scheme to the USCG colour scheme.

Thank you all for jumping in with answers to my question.  Now I can see about downloading some upgrades.  Regardless of the version, Ship Simulator is a great game!

Thanks again!

Thanks, Ralphy.  I'm going to take your advice about 2008 as soon as I've completed the missions on my current version.  That may take a while, though.  I now have a pretty good idea why the Titanic sank!

This is the Ship Simulator 2006 version.
Our US publisher removed the 2006 addition in the name, since they only started selling this version late 2007.
