Why bother with Ship Sim when you can buy a ferry for only £400,000

This is really great news, three ferries for sail for only £400,000 each!

Great fun in the Solent with these, perhaps Terry could be Commodore?

Well, Capt. Traddles can probably work out how to steer one, can't you Angus  ;)

One or two of the kids can have a go as they are experts at everything.

If Mr Grooeenegard (sp, sorry) is still about, he can command the third one.

Which just leaves the rest of us to sit back with beer and sandwiches and watch.

They've got a cheek - when I checked a few months ago the asking price was £384,000.

Doubt Wightlink would want the 'C' ferries back as it would cost too much to being them back into class again. Not to mention SOLAS regs etc

That's what I've been told by those who work in the ferry industry. The MCA and SOLAS regs are getting more and more stricter every few years.

Some new regs, for example does not allow newbuildings to have passenger saloons or crew living quarters below the waterline, and the freeboard to car deck level must be higher than before (which is why the new 'R' class Wightlink ferries look so tall compared to the old 'C' class).

I suppose the main reason for ship sim instead of a real ex wightlink is that these barges wouldn't make Dover-Calais (in the same environment)

i would buy it if i had the money but i dont, i would refit it and start my own ferry company with it or use it as a personal ferry for me and my family to sail on and i would be the skipper :2thumbs:

I don't think it's a fuel problem that would stop you doing such a crossing...

I will make a wild guess that a condition of sale (or sail!) would be that you don't use it in competition with Wightlink

That's an absolute cracker of a video.

Around 18 years ago I was on her with a school trip and the weather conditions were similar, although not bad enough for the vessel to hove around in the Downs, like in that youtube video. It was the best crossing I've ever been on.  :2thumbs:

Anyone got a view as to whether they could do Dover-Calais booze cruises, don't need a dock as you can put them on the beach and put the ramp down?
