There shure do seem to be alot of them around nowadays, they sort of took over after all the British boats stoped and went towards Trawling, I have a feeling they all fish around Iceland and the Faroes.

I am not familiar with that kind of fishing but i recognize the buoys. You mostly see them off the coast. Never knew it was attatched to a net. I always thought there would be some kind of pod attatched to it, like they do on the Deadliest Catch.

My grandfather and his brother had their own fishing vessel. I got a picture of her, taken somewhere in the 60s.

I could most likely tell you what type of fishing it is but youtube doesn't seem to be working for me at the minute.

it looks like they drop a net over the side with a buoy attatched to it. After some soak time they pull the net back on board.

Oh that is most likely Gill Netting where miles of net are spread out along a place where fish are know to be then it is hualed after about 5-6 hours.

This type of fishing is used only to catch octopus, is used to leach out of the octopus called "pot", is how we fishermen call them here in Povoa de Varzim, Portugal.

Our local heritage trawler, she has a few UK records:

I see her pretty much every odd day here, passing the Trawler Docks.

Am I right in thinking that is one of the first deep water stern trawlers? Looks like it is from the 1950's to me.

She was operated by Marr's from Fleetwood for years,
Jacinta was built in 1972.
