Why doesn't Ocean Star have Propellers?
« on: December 02, 2009, 16:41:37 »

I was sailing the Ocean Star from Newyork to Southampton
when I realised that Ocean Star does not have any props to display I have
tryed changing the realism settings but nothing has ever worked no Azipods
no propellers or bowthrusters I was wondering if it was a technical glich.
I don't know so send me an email telling if it's a minor error on my computer

Thanks Joejohn

Hmmm - could you explain, what you mean? You could successfully sail from NY to GB? Well, then you have had props by means of two azipods and a bow thruster as well. ???

It is possible that you can’t see the azimuth drives, propellers, or bow thruster because they are under the water.
Unlike a conventional screw and rudder ship, the drives are usually tucked under the stern so that they are not visible. For that reason, they may be absent from the visible model.
You should, however see the wash, or wake, from them.

I have a feeling that the previous answers were slightly unhelpful. The easiest way to explain the Ocean Star model's lack of azipods is simple. They were just never modelled, as Ship Sim has no underwater view so it is unlikely many people will be looking at the hull. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR COMPUTER.

Or even they weren't modeled just to reduce the polycount.

Did I not say that? Before you accuse someone of being unhelpful, try reading, and if possible, understanding what has been written.
No one told him that there was anything wrong with his computer.

BTW: the very first "Ocean Star" was designed with a conventional propulsion by means of two props, bow and stern thruster. Maybe VSTEP decided to reduce the work when they have changed that into a pod driven vessel so there isn't any detail below the waterline since then.

Or perhaps Vstep purposefully didn't model them to reduce the polycount. There might be nothing wrong with your computer.  ;D

Not ONLY that, but since the pods are underwater most of the time, they probably aren't modelled to reduce the parrot count.

McGherkin,
Here we have one more example of your inability to understand what is written.
No one, including joejohn, said that there was anything wrong with his computer. He asked to be informed by email if there were something wrong.
Michael and I gave him the true explanation. I think that made it obvious to JoeJohn, if not to you, that there was nothing wrong with his computer.

Oh come on Marty. There is an arguement brewing here- which is not allowed unless I start it!

I can understand your point- which you will see with the humourous banter above with WM...

But Mr McGherkin never did say that you did say that he said there was something wrong with his computer... So I do understand your post.

That said, if a bus was hurtling out of control down a hill towards  :2thumbs:you and McGherkin shouted a warning, would you shout "I never said it wasn't"... No, so he's only trying to help!

Oh yes... Since that hasn't been mentioned about 10 times already (too lazy to count),,,

Here we have one more example of your inability to understand what is written.

Then it'll be a good idea to include one two more "Top 10" charts in the forum stats!

You mean for the top 10 people who don't understand what is written or for the top 10 people who upset Marty?

What part of “absent from the visible model” do you not understand?
We often try to give as complete an explanation as possible, and assume that the poster is able to understand. If he were confused on any point, he could ask for clarification.
This is a support board, which should be kept unencumbered by needless posts. If you are eager to increase your post count, please do it in one of the sandboxes.

Hi all,
I agree with Marty, this has gone off topic.
