Instructions + Reading Chart

I just moved from SS06 to SS08.  While I very much like the increase in graphics capabilities and am very impressed overall I'm quite baffled by several things.

#1) Instructions
I cannot find any sort of instructions - which leads to my other questions

#2)  How do I get inside the ship?  In 06 I just scrolled in.  Now that doesn't work.

#3)  How do I get the chart to read visibly?  It's there (two modes I see), but so faint that I cannot really comprehend it.

#4)  This is a result of Q#3.  When doing the baby mission #3 of the pilot boat in the solent I followed to the first waypoint, but then the course is about 290deg, which takes me directly into land.  How am I supposed to know how to figure out the course to the next waypoint?


Suggestions:
There ought to be a "planning" mode so the user can plan their approach to the mission.  In this mode one ought to be able to see the chart (with and without depths) and lay out a course to account for winds and currents.

At least provide a downloadable chart of each of the environments that one can look at separately.

If you press 2 the camera view will change to inside the boat.1 is outside and 3 is walk mode
If you have the boxed version it follows a user manual.
But in the game in the options section you can find out all the keys and also change them if you want to

Hey Jim, answers for you:

1) Did you download or buy over the counter? Im not sure about instructions for the download version but the manual in the box version should outline the basic, not crane operations though annoyingly, look to the controls section in the options for those.

2) Number keys 1 through 3 are the view controls now, 1 being Orbit, 2 being Helm and 3 being Free Roam.

3 & 4) Along the bottom of the chart display is a transparency bar, the further you slide this to the right the more visible the chart becomes.

Hope I helped in someway, if not im sure one of the mods could help also.

2. On the bottom right you can click the camera and then chose walk or helm...

I liked the 2006 method of only needing the scroll wheel to go from inside to external. It was just as effective, but quicker and easier. I'm not sure why they made it where you have to use an additional button to go from inside to outside.

I had downloaded it, so no instructions.  You'd think they could have included a PDF of the instructions.

So far I liked the "real" charts from 2006 better than this one, but most other things are better.

They have included a PDF of the manual! Just look in the installation folder...
