Since there are many people here that seem to do a lot of video manipulation, can anyone recommend a reasonable video editor suite?

It doesn't need to be TOP of the range, but still good enough.

I will be importing video from a camcorder (digital) and will need to edit it, re-sequence it, add subtitles, sound and possibly overlay graphics.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

I use Serif Movie Plus 5. It does everything I need, and then a lot more.

As well as video editing, I can also mix sound tracks with it, which is useful. I create the sound tracks in other programs, and then I can lip-sync and otherwise align them easily in Serif Movie Plus.

I made my video (the pirate one) using Cyberlink PowerDirector, and I must say, is an excellent tool, very easy to learn and very powerful.

Hi Stuart,
I use Ulead Movie Factory 4. This is reasonably priced and will provide all that you specify in your post. I have just checked and find that the current version is Ulead Movie Factory 6 and costs a mere Â£29.99 at a famous online store whose name begins with the first letter of my name. I must not provide free advertising.

I find it very easy to use and it needs to be for someone like me.

Angus- I really don't know which store you mean!!!

The last time I did this sort of thing, (and I wasn't THAT bad) at the time, it was using Deluxe paint 4 and an Amiga 500+ (note the +)

Im not sure exactely what you want, but I believe Nero offers something with video editing

Hi Stu,
The suggestions already made are good for a start, and might fill your needs.
If you find that you need to do more in the way of compositing and menu creation, I can recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio. It is more stable, capable, and somewhat easier to use than Pinnacle Studio.
It does NTSC/PAL conversion and, given your account information, will format and upload to YouTube.

I try to avoid anything saying pinnacle anyway (not to disrespect advice given from others) as I've not had good dealings with that software before.

Basically, I'm putting together a promotional video to bung on our website but can't find anyone to produce it for me that A)does what I want and B)does it at a sensible price... I've had quotes for Â£1000s for a 3 min video! The licence for the music is Â£1200 on its own

(I'm very tight fisted). I've had a few people look at the video who are cheaper, but are cheaper because they are "not overly impressive". So I thought "If you want a job done properly..."

Like Terry I use Serif MoviePlus, however I use a more recent version MoviePlus X3 instead of 5.

I thoroughly recommend it, Serif's customer service is excellent aswell as the software. If you phone up to order you may get a good discount, I have in the past.

Ive tried a programme related to serif movie before, but found it very basic, still that was a long time ago.

Some other company dressed it up as another name and it turned out to be MVP 1.
