Was walking yesterday by the quay taking shots of ships, port, etc as usual. So here're some for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy!

Very unusual to see a vessel which have a wheelhouse and accommodation in the middle (amidships). I think this is the first time that I have seen a such example in modern times.

Haha The nearest ferries are ~ 40 km away from here - a ferry route Baltiysk - Vistula Spit, across the channel.

Hey, the one on the right looks like the former Western Ferries vessel, SOUND OF SHUNA (ex-Ã–landssund IV) which was built in Sweden in 1962. It was purchased by Western Ferries in 1973 for their Hunters Quay - McInroys Point run (in the West of Scotland), until it was replaced by a new ferry of same name in 2003.

Here's an attachment of the old SOUND OF SHUNA, is it the same one? I have a friend who is an engineer for Western Ferries and he'll be interested to know what happened to his old boat

Probably the same ferry or her sister (if she has sisters). Only found that Vistula "was built in Finland in 60s, bought in Poland for the Baltiysk - Vistula Spit route".

Yup Wave Music, that is her all right

She was one of 2 slightly identical sisters - the other one was SOUND OF SCARBA (ex-Ã–landssund III).

SOUND OF SCARBA was sold to private interests who renamed her SOOND with the intention of running her as a hippy "new age" commuter ferry with a difference (don't ask me what that means

) across the River Thames in London.

Following a long and complicated conversion in Greenock, which saw glassed canopies built over her car deck, she finally took up her new role and has since been since renamed SOUND (still with her current owner) but since 2007 I've not been able to find out any more information about her current role. I'm not even sure if she is still running or what she is supposed to be doing.

The port of seattle only has like 4 cranes per berth, so 16 total.

Yeah, too many at every quay.

Like in Trade Port in "Volnaya" harbor:

Originally Fishing Port had ~ 32 cranes & Trade Port - somewhere around 60. In old times there were so many ships in port that the lack of berthing places was clearly seen. Now to see 2 - 3 ships at the quay is already a maximum. So they're slowly reducing the number of cranes as most of them standing with no work almost all year.

The port of Hull also used to have many dock cranes - my father was a crane driver around the docks so that's where my interest in ships started. Obviously with the changing trade patterns and the general decline in break-bulk and general cargoes in favour of containers the cranes reached the end of their lives and were dismantled. Some views from the 80's showing the old cranes in use.

That's the reefer the Frost 5, if I'm not mistaking. Seen her standing here in Trade Port for some months. So it's possible that it's she.

Spotted today now fully 4-masted Kruzenshtern at the "Yantar" shipyard.
