Small question: How will you get your head out again if it's quick setting? ???

Sshhh.....don't tell him, he hasn't figured that bit out yet ;)

After reading some of the posts in this thread I'm not entirely convinced I WANT to get my head back out.

Sorry. I thought my post was quite clear. If vstep found there was a problem at short notice then how could they possibly have given you and notice of the delay? With respect, go back and read my post- you will see that is what I said.

Must point out again that I am not stating this, just guessing.

Stu

Stu thats why we keep bringing it up, we want a statement from the Dev's not a excuse from a moderator.

It fine by me that its delayed but we wanted to hear it from the dev's not a 1000 times were sorry for the delay from you and DJM. there hasnt been any formal statement from Vstep on the delay, it appears they act like their nose bleeds, this leaves a "we dont give a s..t about our customers" kind of feeling and i am sure thats not their intention but it does to some.

Dear Gertjan (and others),

If a patch release is delayed, it is because we are experiencing bugs that we want to fix first.
There is not much more that can be said about it.
This is the same for any game, or any other piece of complex software.
Nobody likes delays, including us, but nobody likes bugs either.
It gives me sleepless nights, if that makes you feel happier.

I'm happy to see there are active members of the development team in the forum. But it makes me feel sad to hear you loose your sleep, I didn't know it was that bad...and it makes me think twice. I've been fighting Stu because he thinks my criticism has been too hard, and he's right. We all get irritated when we buy something which doesn't work correctly, that's whats been on my mind. But I forget about all the hard work behind this software, and that it's a bit of a struggle to get rid of the bugs.

I now understand better and don't think anymore that the development team don't care about us, but they are here in the background working hard with the problems and issues to fix. And I understand that one of the reasons why the patch is delayed is they want to include the mission editor in the first patch because we have asked them to do so, something we should be happy about.

I'm not going to attack Vstep, instead let them take the time they need to make SS08 an even better product, and not put pressure on them. I'm also worried that all the criticism would make them drop any future development plans, that would be very sad for all of us who loves the aspect of the game.

Please understand that since we (the developers) need all available time to fix and test the current outstanding issues, we rely on our forum moderators to inform the users about the status of the patch and other developments. Some of the moderators also help us beta test, so they have sufficient information about the progress and issues to keep the forum up to date.

We know that we should have inform the community about the patch delays before the 17th and we will try our best to keep do so in the future.

Mark

Thats ok mark. I have some other things to look forward to around the time the patch is released. Like going back to the school I haven't been too in 2 years. :D

Dear Pjotr and Mark,

Thanks for clearing that up, we know you guys are working hard to get this patch done in time, but maybe next time when you have a delay (its nothing to have sleepless nights over) if possible inform us better by using a mailing or post a official statement on the shipsim.com site instead of letting a volunteer moderator take the heat of the angry mob ;)

How big is your staff list, dont you folks have a PR employee who should be doing this?

Dear Gertjan and others,

The members of the moderator team are representatives of vstep. Questioning them is not very smart actually, they have their function for a reason. Our moderators are better informed than most members for several reasons and if they tell you that the patch is delayed and for what reason you can take their word for it. Let the developers develop, while the moderators do their job: communicate with the community. I've just about had it with the criticism and the lack of confidence in moderators and developers, since 90% of the criticism is undeserved.

Greetings,

Greetings,

I entirely agree with the posts made by the devs and mods here. I have been on VSTEPS side the whole time and have asked people to stop complaining about this. Like SubWolf said if we keep criticising the team over at VSTEP they will get fed up and stop developing the game and I'm a lot of you will start complaining then! I don't want the 'Boy who cried Wolf' scenario come to mind.

But can we PLEASE STOP CRITICISING SS08 AND VSTEP. It's getting boring apart from anyone else. Imagine who the guys over at VSTEP feel when they think all their hard work is not paying off and everyone is complaining. Come on guys start showing some support and if you're going to say something bad DON'T SAY IT ALL ALL!!

Let's just keep things realistic and clear here. Ship Simulator 2008 is a commercial product, in its current state it does not deliver as expected. Like all products with a status like this customers got the right to complain, do not try to remove that because it's law in most countries. But in this case I think the complains and criticism has gone too far, I agree that we should now leave the dev team alone and let them work on the issues for as long as they need, and then finally finish the product.

Sigh,

You guys dont get it do you!?!? your pulling my question totaly out of context!

I am not criticising, bitching about or bashing your wonderfull product or your staff, the only thing I wanted was to be informed better, i didnt question the reason of the delay or the delay itself, i just wanted to be informed by the staff why it was delayed and i preferred to be informed IF POSSIBLE sooner then on the release date!

I didnt doubt the mod's  but i didnt think they had the info at hand i desired at that time and all I wanted was a official statement from the dev's. nothing more nothing less.

Every reply i get on this question gives me the idea your reading my question the wrong way and you inmediatly go to defence mode and saying that the patch is delayed for a reason bla bla bla, but that wasnt what i asked, what i asked is what i ask above

Now i will stop this discussion, because this is going nowhere.

Hereby my promise to you: I or someone from the development team will announce any future delays if possible prior to the expected date or on the date itself. Indeed, we should have announced the delay earlier. My apologies for that.

With all due respect, Pjotr, we complain about the delay because you’ve spoiled us with your incredible software, and therefore, like any addict, we want our patch NOW.  But please don’t lose sleep over it.  We want you healthy and alert so you can begin working on the 2010 version.  (Is it too soon to reveal a release date?)
