They Should Not Have A Patch
« on: August 06, 2007, 05:51:37 »

Im not impressed as there shouldnt have to be a patch after they have released the game. They should of taken these amount of bugs from it. But instead V-Step wanted to roll in the money and leave the bugs. They should of had game testers for these bugs.

Now a question:

Will the patch be on the boxed version by the time it gets to Australia?

As has been said BEFORE the game was released.

The patch will be included in all copies of the game AFTER the patch release for free download online.

Yes it will be included in the Aus boxed version. Also there are NO bugs in the game. Such things as sinking and Multiplayer were stated before game release that they wouldn't be included until the patch.

What planet do you live on? Even big publishers such as EA and Activision release patches.

Matt. calm down.

Since the patch will be released before you even get the game, what is the problem?
No, it's not good- but that's life. Remember that the total hours of play by ALL the users is many times greater than the hours of beta testing.

If you want bug free- then you can wait longer and pay for more in depth testing. Then complain about having to wait longer and pay more.

Ever notice when you turn on your PS3 or Xbox it says "New Patch Released!" "Download Now?"

everything has patches, the bugs will be fixed, if you don't want the patch then don't download it.

Do you have MS Windows...? I think I have 40-50 patches installed for that program...  ;) As long as they continue to develop the software and release the patches for free I do not have a problem with all these updates.

Yep, which is good really, 'cos I use to hate buggy console games.

I couldn't agree more, I have 1 game that didn't require a patch (a rare thing I know).  The name of that game........

The Simpsons: Hit & Run (don't laugh :P)

Even my Movie Editor requires patching, as pretty much everything does now ::)

Patches are a way of life. Either the company gives free patches - or we are back to other ways - ie they make us pay for the upgrades (another word for patches).

Even outside computers - look at ships, I've seen a ship brought out brand new, the 3rd one in its class, and you would have thought they would have had all the problems wrinkled out - oh nooo, off the slip and into drydock to sort out the problems.

Military jets are the same, so is you car - they find a problem on a certain bit and do a recall.

So patches are here for life, and I welcome them  8) They ensure that the game runs with the newest graphics card, stops stupid errors etc, and I agree, 100 people playing the game for a day produces more data than the testers. Not only on the time issue, but we all play the game different - and this produces the unseen errors!!

Cheers

A lot of software needs patches, but this doesn't excuse the fact that SS08 contains more bugs than average. But I expected this when looking at the price. A sim like FSX costs twice as much, not because its Microsoft, but because its quality. A lot of people have been involved in many hours of betatesting, that means costs but the result is quality and very few bugs when released.

SS08 is obviously not a quality product, the developers thinks profit first which results in a 80% finished product, and the rest delivered in patches. But you get what you pay for...that is my opinion.

Anyway, SS08 eats memory. I got rid of a lot of stuff I thought were bugs when I got more memory. But this shouldn't be an issue if you got 2GB of RAM or more.

I would just like to add that FSX was riddled with bugs and performance issues upon release....hence Service Pack 1 ;)

Probably the only patch needed, FS2004 was only patched once as well.

But I hope that the developers of SS08 don't take offence by my other post here, I still love the game  ;)

You are right to a degree. But I can tell you that missing a publication deadline can result in major delays and possibly the abandonment by a publisher- remember that they have factories ready to burn cds, print boxes etc- Shops will have arranged for a narrow date range to launch the product etc. Postponing a release date will probably result in publisers having to pay penalties to retailers and the cd duplicators etc.

I'm afraid that Vstep has taken the lesser evil option. I'm afraid there is a LOT more to releasing a piece of software than just saying 'its done. find a shop'.

Finally, you do remember that the price you pay also includes retailer margin, publishers fees, production costs... I can't speak for Vstep but another software house I know of gets less than 10% of the box price for each sale. Please don't accuse them of being profit chasers...

Different issues happen on different computers. I for one have not experienced all bugs, I have experienced a few. Someone else with another computer setup has experienced other. And they most likley have identical computers at the office and it's also impossible to find everything. It's also one thing to find them but it takes time to correct them.

May I remind you that you were asking for people to donate money so you could buy the game?

I agree with you here, games perform differently on different hardware and software. Not every single bug can be completely resolved before release date and VSTEP are not a huge company. Having said that I have not experienced many bugs in the game at all. I have noticed a few, but some have made me laugh and I don't mind bugs at all as long as patches are bought out to fix them.

I like patches, shows the developers care about the software and want it to be bug free and even add more features. Can people please stop slagging VSTEP off please it's getting rather tiresome now. Try using constructive critism  ;) ;)

In an ideal world, you'd be right - there shouldn't be a need for a patch... but this isn't an ideal world.

If you look at the succession of patches that were released for SS2006 you will see that VSTEP are very committed to releasing patches for bugs and making improvements. Having bought SS2008 I am confident that given time this version will be patched and we will benefit from a much improved game-play, I wasn't happy that the first patch was delayed but hey - it will be worth the wait in my mind.

That'll do. 2 hours head in Q.S.S. will do nicely. Hopefully this arguement will be concluded by then. But I won't hold my breath (would be difficult buried up to my neck- head first- in sand)

Small question: How will you get your head out again if it's quick setting? ???
