9/11 We Will Never Forget

I dedicate this topic to those that lost their lives in this horrific event. A friend of my fathers perished in the towers that used to stand tall in New York City. Today marks the eighth anniversary of this event...it was 8 years ago today that the world changed forever...

We will never forget those lives that were lost....

Indeed. It is a shame so many innocent people died, and we should remember them.
As a matter of fact, we should also remember that there's a lot of innocent people still dying, because of all this, every day.

But.. Please everyone.. steer clear of any political discussion in this topic.

It twas odd this morning at 9 o clock I looked out my homeroom window to see where the towers used to stand...Even though I was so young when it happened...you still picture them there...I was in them a week before they fell and we were stationed as a patrol boat in a boat race outside of the towers the weekend before they went down...

Having watched United 93 and Flight 93, it was somewhat thought provoking indeed. We should all consider ourselves damned lucky that this did not trigger off world war 3... yet, anyway.

I crashed into one of the towers in FS the day before they went I think it was, seemed very odd when I found out about the towers.

yea i went to ground zero a few years after the collapse on a tour dont remember the exact year. but it was just a dirt site another topic people are talking about is, should the build the freedom tower, or some say rebuild the twin towers in honor of those who died, opinions?

yea i was thinking that too, rebuild them and return the city to how it was and honor the victims that way. I remember the steam explosion down there, i'm about 71 miles by road (less directly) and i could see the giant ploom of steam rising, that was something to see! if i remember right my grandfather used to maintain the steam pipes or soemthing, not sure i'll have to look into that

I've seen both of them as well (a few times).
Every time I see them I am shocked...
But also impressed by the sad phone calls, and the brave passengers who attacked the hijackers. These people saved a bunch of lifes.

I can exactly remember 9/11 8 years ago. I bet everyone can, it's something you just cannot forget.

We have an home video taken from one of the ferries my dad captained on, and it shows the boat pulling up to the concrete people crying and them chopping the gates so people can jump on, and then it you hear this loud hum then the camera points up and your hear HOLY ---- and the plane just smashes into the building, its one thing to see it one the news but on personnel video, I never finished it, I had to shut it off... But today we are going down to the marina (directely across from Ground Zero) to watch the powerboat races, ill be sure to get pictures of the newely constructed building in the area and others for you all to view, and as chantal said

I just watched a documentry on the History Channel about the Marriott Hotel (3 World Trade). There were some survivors from 3 WTC. When Tower Two collapsed, it cut the Marriott virtually in Half. The survivors were in the south half on the second floor, and when Tower One collapsed, only the 3 floors of the south half of the hotel stayed intact ever since the reconstruction of the damaged hotel on February of 1993. The people survived and got out of the Marriott Remains. I call it a miracle. But it is still sad of the total people lost in the collapse, over 2,700 souls, about twice as many as Titanic's. We will never EVER forget 9/11 :'(

More than the actual attack, the thing that I will remember most- and the thing that says a lot about the country I live in is that a group of children were shown on TV cheering at the attacks.

I also remember the US ambassador in Britain almost in tears on 'Question Time' because of the hostility of the audience towards the US. Politics aside- we know that US foreign policy can be a bit 'unusual'- but to teach children to cheer when mass amounts of people are horifically dying???  :o ??? >:( Quite depressing really...

What about the pentagon, the week after the attack my Mom & I flew to DC and seeing a airplane sized hole in the side of the pentagon was horrible.

But they were kind of dumb they hit the side that was closed due to construction...

I know the US makes public a lot of what it's secret(ish) service does, but I doubt that includes giving information to Iraqistan (sic) as to what sides of the building is open/closed.

In any case, don't you think it likely that all the important bits are below ground and it's only the stationery cupboards above ground- I imagine it was formerly a prize target for the Russians...

In any case, it wasn't killing people or destroying buildings that they wanted- it was to cause fear and distrust in the US Government policy- hitting an empty part didn't reduce it's 'impact' (I can't think of a better word, so please excuse, it wasn't a pun)

If they rebuilt the same exact towers, then the building's would be at risk to the same design flaws that lead to their demise in 2001. Besides, the Freedom tower (actually they changed it's name to "1 World Trade Center") is already well under construction.

Look at the one that was hijacked over the weekend I think. Too bd we need to live with this, also Shane I think if they were going to rebuild it they would change some of the features to avaid what happened in the past, and I dont know if the freedopm tower is being built, (I dont want to start another argument like last time)

I think I shall lock this topic, everyone has given their respects to those lost, but we can still discus  what they should build in the cookie box
