Even with the words "No offence to anyone intended", that's no defence - some folks would still find it offensive.

I suspect your remark is more likely as a result of naivety on your part as I am aware the term 'gay' is often used in school playground banter to describe someone/something as lame, weak, epic fail etc without really realising the true meaning of that word.

Mr Clarkson from BBC's Top Gear also once got into trouble for calling a rubbish car 'gay'.

It was a Daihatsu Copen, and Mr Clarkson's remark was never broadcasted. It only came to light when one of the guests at the show told a newspaper afterwards what had happened.

People have become far too quick to take offence at things and society as a whole has become far too quick to pander to the professionally offended. As a result everyone tiptoes around the sensibilities of the hurt and wounded and people are afraid to speak.

I am no advocate of people saying what they like regardless of how it may be hurtful to others, but there has to be a balance.
