Hi all, here's another update.

Exterior almost done..  just a few little details and flaws to get just right.
After that just the wheelhouse interior left.

A quick render with more to follow soon!

Regards,
Fred

Thanks very much y'all!!  I appreciate the kind words!!  :2thumbs:

Well.. it's all just connecting lines drawn in a 3d environment.. Sketchup can do just as much detail as any other program. But people think it cannot, since so many very simple models float around out there, cause just about anyone can pick it up and have a go.. unlike other expensive programs aimed at professional use. and the resulting 'overdose' of very simple models, lacking detail, gives most people the wrong view of the program, I reckon.. I know I myself have had to seriously change my opinion about it.. hehe.. ..  And of course you can only get detail if you put the hours in to painstakingly create them.  ;D

But it's still all 3d drawing at the end of the say.. joining up the dots... doesn't matter if you draw it with 3dsmax, gmax, blender, truespace, hexagon, cinema, sketchup..  or whatever. lines will be lines. And sketcup will let you put as much detail in it as you like, right up to the point where your pc slows down to pre-pentium speeds..  ;D

Fred, showing us real pictures of vessels and saying they are your renders is frowned upon. (They do look that real!) :2thumbs:

I found that out with the QE3... it got really slow.

Will you try to get Perseus in SS?

Hehe.. cheers Shane!  :2thumbs:

TFM,

Dunno.. I haven't suggested anything to Vstep.. I just wanted to finish it first.

At the moment it is too poly high, since I make this first draft for looks mainly. After it's all done, I intend to redo much of the railings and other very round features, to make them less hi poly.

I suspect I can then keep it within limits. Then it's a case of doing a few more jobs with which I have yet to get any experience.. like lightmaps and collison models and proper texturing and you name it...  :)

So.. for now it's just the model bit. Needs lots of work to get it in the game.. IF Vstep would even want it.

Yeah... it would be the first SWATH vessel.. As far as the need for addons to add something new to the game, that much is in order, I reckon.  ;D

Hey Fred,

I am going to vlissingen this thursday, biceaus I am starting my studies there next month (maritime officer).
And te sistership of the Perseus, the Cetus, is normally moored somewhere in port.

So, if you want, I'll look her up for you and take some (detail) pictures.

Are there some areas of wich you want extra pictures?

Your model looks great Fred!

Hiya Sam,

Cheers! That would be nice!

Since I did not have any plans, the model is far from accurate. I'm thinking of just renaming it and look at it as a sort of, little sister of Perseus and Cetus. Many details are not true to life as it is now. A lot if it due to the lack of high res photo's. So pretty much any part you can get up close, would be helpful, athough of course, I'm allready done with most of it, and might only redo the whole thing if I find accurate plans.   :)

The most important thing still to be done is the wheelhouse interior. No good photo's to be found there. But that's asking more than you can accomodate, I reckon.

Thanks in advance! I really appreciate it!!  :2thumbs:
