Ben My Chree Bridge
« on: July 31, 2009, 18:07:55 »

Some pictures from the bridge of the Ben My Chree on the 27th July on my bridge visit, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post photos with the equipment or controls for various security reasons.

However here are some without:

Boarding..

Before we could depart we had to wait for this dredger to come in

Some pictures looking over the bow..

View aft from starboard wing

Window in the floor of starboard wing..

Passing a oil rig..

A distant Manannan..

Land ahead!

On the approach..

Bow thruster wake in harbour..

I really enjoyed my visits to the bridge on that sailing (One underway and another to see the docking.)

The officers and Captain are really friendly, they showed me the equipment and controls they use, and the Captain was very brave to let me have a steer. Then they let me have a wander and take pictures, they were even very kind to take pictures of me at the helm and in the Captain's seat. ;D

A big thanks to them for the wonderful time! :)

Hope you like the pictures. ;)

Great pics James! Nice to be on the bridge, isn't it ;D

I'm sure you're allowed to post, there are pictures on Ship Spotting of bridges etc. I also asked captain Eccless of the Stena Leader if it was ok to take pictures, and he said it was fine, as well as the bunch on Brittany Ferries.

It is indeed. ;D

Here:

Not sure if it's Stena Leader or one of her sisterships.

Well I might post some later, The Captain was fine with me taking pictures, it's just uploading them to the internet that I'm not sure about.

What do you mean, TFM?

Heysham to IOM. ;)

That....is the Stena Pioneer, you can tear them apart by the structure at the car deck at the stern.

Jack.
Ah right :)

We did find out on the radar/AIS onboard, but I've forgotten now. ::)

They've got an interesting steering Column, usually they are seperate from the actual main console. All the bridge's I've been on so far have a seperate steering column, set back from the main panel.

Nice bridge though! - Thanks for sharing!

Jack :)
From pictures that NathanC has posted of the PoH/PoR bridges, it seems that steering column is also on the main console.

I guess it all depends on the ships designer and builder.

I know its 3 years after but i hope someone can give me some info. Im at the stage of applyig for university and looking at doing nautical science, (learn to be a deck officer).

You say you took a visit to the bridge, im just wondering how i would go about doing this also because it would be a valuable 'work' experience for me and a great addition to my application. Also the ben my chree is of particular interest to me as i have travelled on it numerous times and is the type of vessel id look to work on in the future.

Thanks,
Carleton
