HI stevo_93,
The plane is just a nice bit of extra fun. If you click on it you can get a nice birds eye view of what is below. But, as you say you can't control it, it just flies its own set course. Have you also noticed the seagulls? They are also there for fun, and to remind us that the game is to do with the sea. 8)

I wish that we had one of those in SS08. Hopefully we will in SSE.

I do not think either of those aircraft will appear in SS Extremes. They were really just a bit of extra fun in SS 2006.

I really liked the plane and bird feature. I think that was what gave me the empty feeling in SS08... There were no flying birds ;D.

There are birds in SS10, if I remember right *Goes to check screenshot*.

EDIT: Found the screenshot - It does appear there will be birds in SS10:

Also, one thing I find with SS10 is, is that, it seems much more "Brighter", like SS06. SS08 has always been a bit sort of, darker. SS10 seems rather nice and cosy! ;D

Naa, It aint' just you. Nathan also shares the same opinion, along with many others. No sure what it is, but, SS08 seems slightly more darker, whatever way it works!

If you have SS06, you'll notice it is much more brighter, and "airy", than SS08. It's just much more colourful.

Yes, the colors are more vibrant and saturated in SS06.

There is a downgrade to a lot of videogames; features that are wanted sometimes are lacked. I suppose you can't get everything right.

OR....

Perhaps the developers considered that it was unusually bright and decided that in 08 they should make it a little more dim.

OR OR...

They just don't like us and are saying- "Rotten little forum members we have."  ;D.

Somehow I doubt VSTEP feels that way. It is possible the different game engine. What type did SS06 use? It could always be different programming methods, different versions of the game engines, and other things. I'm sure though that there is a reasonable explanation, or maybe it could be SS08's waves, maybe they have something to do with it.

Or maybe;

They just don't like us and are saying- "Rotten little forum members we have."  ;D.

But really, aside from my jokes ;D, you really think that it could be an engine, not the programming? It could be that they thought they could make a few changes, because they'd like things done that they thought were better.

Don't forget the entire mechanism for wave motion has been changed. That will almost certainly have an effect.

Motion affects brightness and color? I learned something new, I guess, unless you are trying to, as you say, program me to say that :-\ :( ;D.

Having a the AI helicopter and plane back in the future SS versions would be nice! You can some make some nice missions where they are involved in search and rescue mission! The AI helicopter could also be used for delivering the pilot; hovering above the bridge wing while they hoist the pilot down.
