Okay I have looked at one of my pictures:

The forward of the pods is the non rotating one.

The rear pair are the rotating azipods.

I have a question. On QM2's stern, towards the bottom, it looks like a flat stern, then it rises up to be curved. It looks really weird. Does anyone know why that is?

I never thought that QM2 has such ugly stern:

It's quite understandable that the stern is square near the water surface like on many modern ships as it's specially shaped to place the azipods there. But it's funny to think how they anyway made it round like on QM.

A picture I found of the QM2 azipods...the back two are the ones that spin 360.

On the subject of symbols, I have a question about one. I've noticed this on a few larger ships, does anybody know what this one means?

Hey Nathan, i have never seen that symbol on a vessel before, but given their position, i would believe that they are there to mark where the stabelizers are.

The question about the stabilisers has already been answered

I could be mistaken, but it looks like a stabiliser. Could it be an indicator for marking the position of the stabilisers?

Yep TFM those markings on QM2 are stabilisers.

I have a poster of her on my wall which is a side view of her, these two marking are directly above the stabilisers. :)

She has a draft of about 10 meters, pretty suitable for her I think :)

There doesn't need to be much below the water, with the likes of QM2, Shane. Since she's only carrying passengers. The likes of the Berge Stahl, an Iron Ore carrier, Bulk Carriers and the likes, need to have a lot under the waterline. As well as other vessels like Tugs etc.

Also, they would also want to keep their draught to a minimum, since they would want access to as many ports as possible, as well as being as agile as possible.

I know this is not what we were talking about...but they expect to put the old SS Nomadic back in service by 2012. If they do, will she probably be working for QM2? I think it might because ever since WSL and Cunard merged, Cunard carries out the deed of keeping up some of Titanic's victim's grave's even though WSL used to do that. So would that mean that Nomadic would belong to Cunard as WSL's vessel?
