Country: USA

City & State: Charleston, South Carolina

Age: 40

Sex: Male

Top 3 other games: Flight Simulator
                             Train Simulator
                             Railroad Tycoon 2

Closest major port: Charleston, South Carolina

Desired port locations: Genoa, Italy
                                  Bridgetown, Barbados
Any of the major Great Lakes ports

Desired vessel types:  RMS Queen Mary (the first one)
Andrea Doria (perhaps a mission where we can try to avert the collision!)
                                 large US Coast Guard cutter

Where purchased?:     On the ShipSim.com site

On a scale of 1-5, how would you rate SS currently?:  4

Preferred type of gameplay:  I like the passenger ships/ferries, tug/pushboat/cargo ship/crane/rescue&pilotboat operations, also like the water taxi missions. The ramping/racing are interesting, but not quite my cup of tea.

Other comments:  The Solent & River Test, Rotterdam, Cornwall, and San Francisco were all excellent choices of ports--there's a lot to see and do there in various types of vessels--I like the model of Padstow's layout. All of the port scenery looks fantastic, as do the ships and the water texture.  The ocean-going fishing trawler and historical yacht were interesting inclusions.  I also thought the radio chatter at the helm was a nice touch.

Bugs with the game are a problem--the most nagging is the "disappearing ship syndrome" which occurs when a mission is reset with Titanic and Ocean Star--it seems to go away when you exit and re-start the game.  The damage model could use some work; Ocean Star sank like a rock after I accidentally ran down a 5-meter long fiberglass sailboat at less than 5 knots!  Automatic full cabin and porthole lighting on all ships at night would be a nice bit of realism and would add even more to the sim visually.  All in all, this is a fun and educational sim; I also like the fact that there are a LOT of different missions in different vessels to choose from.

Racers, etc. do have already other options available. Don't need to mention the programs.

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here: AA) desperate waiting for current- and wind implementation. (Would lift the rating up to 5 plus). Deerly missed and unforgivable not being implemented. BB) Extending the Rotterdam port limits more into the North Sea area, in order to create a realistic salvage operation including proper entering of the NRW at Hoek of Holland. The earlier mentioned wishes are more-or-less being implemented. Thanks.

On a scale from 1-5, how would you rate Ship Simulator currently: 4 - This is for ship simulator 2008 as have heard about bugs in ship simulator extreme and dont fancy going through all that 'steam' nonsense either,i will try it at some point (when a direct download is available without having to go through steam at a reasonable price). In the little time i have spent on it, it is very enjoyable. One of the things that bothers me is the horn sounds are not very good, even with the extra downloads and patches available.

Which is more appealing to you in Ship Simulator, the technical simulator aspects (such as docking, tugging, crane operations, etc.) or the fast, speedy arcade style of playing (such as races, ramping, and such):
Much rather the technical aspects as racing games are ten a penny

Any additional comments or suggestions welcome here:

I enjoy Docking the ship (mostly Pride of Rotterdam) from a realistic viewing angle, i.e, not from an arcade like view above the ship.
It is sometimes difficult though to achieve the situational awereness as you would have from Standing on the Bridge wing of the real Thing.
When I push the 4 on my Keyboard it enables me to move the viewing Point aft and Forward along the Center line of the ship and to look left/right, pivoting around the viewing Point.
What I miss is a way of clicking with my mouse anywhere on the ship and select that as a viewing Point, and being able to view left/right pivoting around that Point. Perhaps being able to select a few of those Points would be even better.
