Video Editing Software
« on: April 22, 2009, 21:33:47 »

Hey Everybody,

I am on a mission to find the best Video Editing software for under one hundred US dollars.  I am looking for so-called real time editing, in other words to add affects to the video in a user friendly format that is totally customizable.  The basic functions that I am looking for is options such as lens-flare, lights, heat shimmer, and that kind of deal.

The $100 is a self enforced limit so I can spend more but I'd rather not.

This may sound like a pretty off-handed request and alot of demands but I was just hoping some one out there who does some good editing could make a good recommendation.

Thanks,

Best of all it's $110 cheaper than you are willing to spend.

The best video editor in the $100 range is Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum.
Prices vary, and you may not need the platinum version.
It is actually two programs. The Architect adds menus and combines the video files edited in Movie Studio. It is much better, more versatile, and more stable than Pinnacle Studio 12—for about the same price.

I should mention two features:
It will format, log on, and upload videos to YouTube—it stores your account information.
It does high-quality conversion between NTSC <> PAL. You can mix clips in both formats and render the production into either format.

Yes, the higher-priced versions have features that you may never need—support for Blue-Ray, for instance.
Even the simpler version does green-screen compositing, PIP with keyframe panning, etc. You can have a large number of overlay tracks—video and audio—where other programs restrict you to one.
The manual, and Help, are better than most.

Sony Vegas is most certaintly the one that I was looking at myself because of many other videos I've seen and look great using that software.  Also I like Las Vegas!

Thanks guys,

Even the simpler version does green-screen compositing,

Hmm is green screen compositing like what they do in Sci-Fi films like Star Wars, they have a green background and then put in a different (usually more exotic) background...?

eg, Star Wars EIII, they filmed the Lightsaber fight, with a green screen, then put volcanoes and lava in the background...?

Sorry if this seems a silly question.

Yes, that is how the weather maps, etc. are shown behind the weatherman on TV.

I attempted to use that software from the Demo version but I was not super impressed.  Can you tell me about any gained functionality when you buy the full version? :-\
