Titanic's 97th Anniversary

Tomorrow is April 10, in history, the start of Titanic's maiden and doomed voyage .  This is a sad time for me.  From April 10 to the 15, I'll be remembering the Titanic disaster and watching documentaries.  To finish it off on April 14, I'll watch the movie Titanic .

Let us give our respect to the ones who didn't survive, like the Third Class passengers and the brave crew.  I ask on this topic that there will NOT be any offensive comments to the Titanic.  I'll be also going on Ship Simulator 2008 to sail the Titanic and listen to the soundtrack of the movie Titanic.

Now, I want to ask: what are you going to do for the 97th anniversary of Titanic?

Absolutely nothing at all. There is no convention at all for noting a 97th aniversary.

I guess sail it on a mission I never thought about it but it is a tragedy but think about this Would the titanic still be as famous if it didn't sink?

maybe in three years (100th anniversay) there will be a celebration ! and i can just say is that the titanic was a grand ship of its day and (if cheers any one up) that she is really good in the game (oh yah and have a nice easter)

I think i will read about the ship to try to find out more. I have always been facinated by the Titanic and i think it is worth remembering today and in the future.

I think that "worst built" is not too far from the correct statement.

"Over hyped" might also be quite close.

And why would anyone want to celebrate a disasterous, ill-equipped ship that went down, causing so many tragic deaths?

Actually, if anyone has good reason to mark the anniversary with some pride, it is the Canadians, for the compassionate efforts of the people of Halifax, and the many volunteers—embalmers and other mortuary workers—from throughout the maritime provinces who spent many arduous days at sea recovering and treating with respect the bodies of Titanic’s passengers and crew.

Perhaps Canadians don’t believe in overdoing things.

I might add that we have not forgotten their help and hospitality to stranded air travelers in a more recent tragedy.

Its not Canadians, i just think RMS Canada is really compassionate about Titanic, and  i dont think i saw one thing on NTV News(Newfoundland Television) today about Titanic (Its the 10th here today)

Perhaps on the 100th aniversary it will be a bigger deal. RMS Canada, do you "celebrate" the Titanic for 4 days straight from the 10th-14th of April, every year? I think thats over doing it a bit.

What gets me is, her Sister Olympic survived, and was actually scrapped. So I suppose you could say its debatable-in a way. Either way, I don't think we'll ever really know what happened there, whether it was rubbish Rivet Heads, or dodgy crewman ship, we'll never know I don't think.

and celebrating the Titanic is not the right word, remembering is. I mean celebrating it is a bit like celebrating Adolf Hitler isnt it.

I wouldnt say the ship was badly built, More badly managed and designed.

From a metallurgical standpoint, one can say either that she was poorly built or poorly designed given the limitations of the materials and processes.
She was “a bridge too far” given the materials and the understanding of stress concentration and fatigue of that era. That being said, it was known from inspection of Olympic that there were problems with her before she left for New York. White Star and H&W chose to roll the dice.

I'm not celebrating it like a party.  I do it more like a "Remembrance Day" except not for war.  I'm sad and quiet from April 10 to the 15.  But this weekend is also Easter (today is Easter Sunday), and I'm remembering the Titanic more than what Easter is about.

No. I said that I am going to try forget about it. That's if I can be bothered to remember about it.

I'm remembering the Titanic more than what Easter is about.    

You think that the sinking of an ocean liner is more important than easter? Why should we remember the ship at all? How about "remembering" the sinking of the Wilhelm Gustoff which had a higher death toll than Titanic, or the capsizing of the Normandie in New York?

How about we all try to forget about the floating piece of garbage that was Titanic, and remember the 1500 poor people who died that night?

"Floating" may not be quite the right adjective.

"Garbage" may also not be entirely correct, since most garbage does not cause people to drown.

I dont get whats so important about Titanic, I'd rather remember the people rather than the vessel, a vessel can be replaced, lives cant. Why hasnt anyone ver heard of the Wilhelm Gustoff, she had a much, much, much higher toll than the Titanic, and I only heard about this earlier today
