Ship Sim is particularly demanding on a computer. Part of your problem could be your card, since it's on the low end.

What kind of frame rates are you getting? What operating system do you have? (if you have Vista, 2GB of RAM is kind of low).

Also, what's the clock speed of your processor? If you have a slow processor, it can also have an effect on how Ship Sim runs.

Hi kidcptainmo.

You'll need to upload your "DXdiag" results so that I can take a look and see what's what.

Here is how to upload your DXdiag results:

Click Start button. Select "Run". Type "dxdiag" and press "Enter".
(If using Vista you may have to press the Windows Key + R to get the "Run" prompt, depending on how your system is set up)

You might be asked about WHQL drivers, click "Ok".

In the next window click the button that says "Save All Information", when the Save Dialog box appears, save the file to your desktop.

To upload the file here, select "Reply" to this message. Select "Additional Options" (underneath the text area) and choose "Browse".  Browse to your desktop, click the file and click "Open". When finished post the message.

The problem would seem to be your Quadro card.

I'm not familiar with that range, but it doesn't seem to be fast enough.

Does anyone else have any experience of this card?

My uncle is a computer person and he thinks it may just need an update but im not sure if it is just an older card.

It's not one of the supported cards for Ship Simulator and I think it just may not be good enough, but go to the Nvidia site at
http://www.nvidia.com
and see if there is an updated drver for your card. It might help (but it might not).

Your CPU is plenty good enough. And you have 2GB of RAM, which is enough under XP.

Be careful which card you get, though. Some of them "share" the RAM, which means they steal it from your system.

The NVIDIA 8800 series seem very good, but check beforehand in case they use any of the system RAM. The letters at the end make a huge difference (8800 GT and 8800 GTX are very different cards)

Hiya kidcaptainmo, you can use Fraps (a free program) to check your framerate.. :)
http://www.fraps.com/

You open it before you play a game, then it shows you the fps (frames per second) in that game..

I'll move this across to Small Talk now. You'll get a lot more people giving you hints and tips there, I expect.

acording to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_Quadro it should be roughly equivalent to an geforce 5800 which is a little to slow for the game I guess.

Well, my expectation that moving it here would get more results was somewhat optimistic, it seems. It took over two months to get a reply.

Oh dear...

Remember matt if you have a dual or a quad cpu say speed is 2,5GHz then you don't have speed like 5GHz or 10 GHz cpu only 2,5 GHz

that you have are 2 or 4 single CPU's in one that help its other, but Terry can explain this beater and me i think  can explain it on Norwegian, but then you will not understend
