How come? Financial reasons?    :-\

No, nothing to do with financial reasons.  The answer, finding it in the first place.  I was lucky enough to get a copy for my birthday last year from EB Games in the Orillia Square Mall.  Since then, I looked in the same store where my copy of SS08 was found and there aren't any more copies.  What's worse, SS08 doesn't seem to be sold in such stores like Walmart, Zellers, Toys 'R' Us, etc.

What's wrong with the download option? You can be playing the game 30 mins after your have paid and downloaded the game. I don't have a disc and I don't mind it that way ;)

I think it will be back in the store for a while when SS10 comes out  :)

Some people don't have VISA card or Master Card you know, you must eat a lot of food and reach a certain age before you can get those cards ;D
So maybe it's time to take another fight with mom and dady over the kitchen table at dinner? :D

*just kidding*

SS is also sold at Amazon.com about a month after it's release. You can always get it there.

I agree. That way you get a manual for game information and you don't have to go pull up anything. Then you also don't have to go through the process of installing it by download if you ever want to re-install a game. Too much blah involved in downloading.

I used gamersgate and they allow you to keep the download on your computer in-case you may need to reinstall no re-downloading it and having to wait.

Never heard of that system before. But if you unistall it, you must get rid of any files relating to the game. How do you keep it on your computer?

The download installation file is not removed when you remove ship simulator from your computer. Don't worry about that :)

To be honest guys, if you are able to pay for the game online, and have a fast internet connection I don't see why people should avoid having the 'CD' as it were. As long as you download the game once, and save it either in a safe place or on another drive you should be absolutely fine. If you want to install the game again, just run the installation file you downloaded :)

Simple, isn't it?

When downloading some programs—not necessarily SS—the instructions say to “click Run or Save”. If Run is chosen, the installation file is downloaded to a temp location and is removed after the installation is complete. One needs to pay close attention to such directions.
The installation file can be saved to a CD or a DVD, or simply moved to a safer place on the HD—perhaps on a different computer.

People,

For starters, I DON'T ORDER ONLINE BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE PAYPAL OR A CREDIT CARD TO PAY FOR!!

That's the reason.

Fair enough, I'd say. That's not uncommon..

Isn't there anyone you know, in your family perhaps, that you can hand the cash, after which they order it for you that way?

I know a lot of players that solved it that way, because they were either too young to do it themselves yet, or do not trust online shopping, etc..

Just a thought..

Mmmm, well I have to big sisters who order online, Jessica and Katie. I do have a big brother named Raymond (lives in Ottawa) who tried to get my New Horizons for Xmas 2008 but couldn't find a single copy.

I may ask my father if he can get New Horizons for my upcoming birthday (he can't order online, but he could drop by EB Games and ask them to order a copy).  I don't know when SS10 is expected to be released and if I plan to get it, I'll have to make sure my PC can handle it (I had to purchase a used computer and upgrade the old graphics it with a new one so I could play SS08).

Hi RMS Canada,

If you are considering getting NH, may I suggest that you see if you can get CE (Collector’s Edition) instead? It has additional material that you may find of interest: A printed Captain’s Journal and a long video showing details of the new features in SS 2010, along with demonstrations by some of the developers. It also makes the updating process simpler if you ever have to re-install.
I mention it because some seem not to have been aware that it is available.
Regards,
Marty

In the real world, if you want it, you gotta pay for it. If you don't pay for it, you don't get it.

Quite simple, really.

Basic principle of trade, is it not? "Fair" is of no relevance at all.

I've been told by a few users that the captains journal isn't very good. And is just paper..
The only thing out of the CE that's even appealing for people is the making of video.

Who in their right mind would buy another copy JUST for the video for €30? I could get 2 much more interesting DVD's for that price..
(Presuming they already have SS+NH and shipyard items.)

Yeah it might be alright if I had a bank full of money, but I don't and I certainly wouldn't waste €30 of my money on another SS+NH just to get that video..
Even though the video appeals to me, the price doesn't.

EDIT: Just to add aswell, I might aswell wait for the SS10 CE comes out for the goodies in that instead of using my money beforehand.
Just means VSTEP will get my money later.... Who knows, they may not even be around then, with this global crises.

That's a good idea; I'll ask my father to get it for my birthday.  And who knows, maybe I'll find a copy of CE while on my New York City trip  ;D

Thanks Marty!!
