« on: March 22, 2009, 03:11:27 »

Look at this! One photo of her maiden voyage, and one of her being scrapped! ;D The images are so high quailty, that I am not even going to DARE to post these on the forum using the BBC codes and I can't upload them as an attachment because they are too high quality. Look at them! :o

These are sure to fit any screen thats for sure! :lol:

I heard on Olympic's final voyage, she hit a light ship. Cutting it in half. That was when Olympic was known to be getting too old. And the first pic shows she had saltwater erosion on her hull(look at waterline) making it look like she was way old.

They did. When Olympic lost a propeller shaft. They had to take a shaft from Titanic(still under construction) and a Propeller that was lost. Which delayed Titanic's maiden voyage from March 10, 1912, to April 10, 1912.

Did they ever find the prop? Why was it lost?

Allso looks like she had a small colission with the dock wall.

You can see a white line at the same height as the dock wall.
Bad day for the captain  :P

1500;

It's also the name of a small Fiat, it was a year, it's part of the name of a Dell Computer, it's the number of jobs a company called "Sharp" cut in Japan in January....your point being? It's a number...

(And I've been informed below that it's the smallest engine size on the Dodge Ram pickup).

The second picture is a very sad sight. You can just barley make out her rudder and what is rest of her. A very sad sight. I hate that she was scrapped. I hate it when ANY ship is scrapped.

Look on the bright side. The ship gets recycled. You might buy a razor blade one day that was made out of the hull!

I think more people would be interested in this topic if your photos were actually on this topic...

It was sad to see RMS Olympic be scrapped. She was the most beautiful (second to Titanic) ship of the 1900s to 1930s.
