They could probably strip it down and be cheaper, don't include the speakers, since we all have those, the joystick, most of us have one.

Making it plastic would reduce costs, but that is probably not the point, since it IS for Ship Simulator PROFESSIONAL...

Not to bash on VSTEP, but knowing the way they do things I am sure it will be at least 6 months before we even see one of these thrown together to look good in a photo.

I am pretty sure they don't have an entire team working on it. :)

That will be for Pro only, probably. Game-type joysticks are not suited for controlling azimuth drives, as has been mentioned many times.
In order to implement polar-coordinate sticks, a special interface in Pro may be required.

Argh yeah another one..
So how many units will they sell of this one, 500 units?
What about making some controls for the standard version and sell 1000 units?
I'm not very sure what VSTEP is thinking...it looks like it's all about the pro version and now and then some updates to the standard version.

It's for SS Pro, I doubt there will be one for the game version.
However if you bought the unit off VSTEP i would think you  could configure it for the game version.

I think it is possible, yust combine a potmeter for rudder 1 and a potmeter for engine 1, et voila..
the same for engine 2 and rudder 2..
And there is a combinated telegraph and rudder controll ;)

Well there you got a opportunity to start your own business and make controls for this game.
Maybe you can get it alive before VSTEP.  ;)

What a shame there is no controller version for SS2008 gamers.   :'(

I'm sure a Vstep ShipSim controller would be popular because we would buy them in the knowledge that it was created by the same company and our money would be going straight back to them.

It doesn't have to be all "bells and whistles" - a steering wheel, throttle levers, thruster switches and a handful of function buttons would be more than enough to enjoy Ship Sim.

IMHO

Hi Kevin!

Vstep already make large consoles for use at the exhibitons. I'd love one of those! So, it can be done. However, hand-making each console is a costly business, in parts but more so in man-hours.

But I suspect that the biggest problem is that for Vstep (or whoever builds them) getting them CE marked will bump the price up through the roof.

The process is that it is illegal to sell electrical equipment that isn't CE marked. Being CE marked means that it is known to meet all relevant legislation. And there are loads and loads of regulations. Having it independently tested (or doing the testing themselves) costs a fantastic amount of money.

I emailed them (using the link on their website) a few days ago asking how much the ShipDriver would cost and whether they would be available to the United Kindgom. So far I've not had a reply from them.....not very impressed.  >:(

Part of me feels they are VERY coy about the whole thing.

I emailed them asking about price sometime ago and in pounds it would roughly cost: (I think the price they gave was an estimate)

$199 - £130

The planned price is $199 US.

Thanks for that, it sounds slightly better considering a while ago it would have been just under £180, not including VAT and possible hefty postage costs.

I will let you know if I do hear from ShipDriver and whether the price is still the same.
