Nah, I was almost close to that!

I claim no credit; your guesses encouraged me to take a closer look at the stern , and Google did the rest.

Edit: as it turns out, no credit to claim anyway  ;)

Hi kuusuru,
She was actually built by Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson at Wallsend on Tyne in 1925, for the Charente Steamship Company, but using a Rennie Line name. The one you mention was an earlier ship which did belong to the Rennie Line, that Company was later taken over by the Harrison Line. (Charente Steamship Company) Thanks Fred for your input, which IS of the correct ship.

Ah I see the text part of my reply got lost when I posted the link into it.... I googled for Inanda (decyphered from the picture), and that's the picture that rolled out on top.  ;D

Does that mean it's my go? Or kuusuuru for getting the name right?

...and think about the actor Klaus Kinski, who has made such a channel/track popular around the world in one of his movies. Well, he was a real crazy guy... ::)

I just found her former name on the Greenpeace website, but you beat me to it. ;) I have no pics handy at the moment so I'll leave it to someone else.
The picture of Klaus Kinski above reminds me of some time ago watching that film on TV which my daughter had recommended. I believe it was titled "Fitzcarraldo" The steamer was manhauled over the hill from one river to another.

What is the name of this tanker, and which company operated her when she was new?

Mike,
I thought it was one of Eagle Oil's ships at first but the funnel marking is the wrong shape. It does look a bit like a bird of some kind. I'm no good on tankers, so like Fred, I'm stumped.
Here's one which shouldn't be too hard for some of our members. ;D

OK, It wasn't an easy one, she was the Garonne, operated by the Orient Steam Navigation Company until transferred to Trident Tankers in whose colours she is seen!

with help from Google (as I don't have her in my collection) it is the Dutch flagged "Mercedes" and it looks like she's on the Mersey.
