Diamant's question still rides for a small hour..

Hi saltydog,
The "Vistafjord" was chartered by British Leyland to present the Metro car to their dealers. She came into Gladstone dock in Liverpool and I watched them loading a number of cars, all wrapped up in sheets so that one could not see them. She then sailed out into the Irish sea for a day for the presentation. I was a lecturer at the radar school at the time, just beside where she was moored.

Angus.

BTW the ship I posted last was indeed the S.S."Craftsman".

I think the fast ferry at Martha's Vinyard is the "Millennium" or the "Seastreak".

Didn't her mooring lines snap, and she went downstream with the tide? And then she hit the wall which had the VTS center just in front?

I'm thinking you remember that from when I told you about 20 seconds ago.

Yep, European Endeavour was caught in bad weather, broke from her moorings, scraped along the pier in Dovers eastern docks then rammed head first into the VTS centre before a tug came to the rescue.

That incident was some time ago now, and she is back in service. =

However, they still haven't fixed the Calais Berth where the endeavour decided to do a 'Aquitaine' later on! She was berthed in Calais and was just about to depart, when she had engine problems and hit the berth. Coincidentally, it was the same berth (Calais 7) which the Aquitaine hit a few years back. Well this incident happened August 29th 2008. I was over in Calais on Tuesday, and low and behold...

Calais 7 was replaced by Calais 6 or is C7 closed for good, or something.

My guess would be they're dredging and the forces involved in the scooping of the mud are powerfull enough to pull the barge partially under?

Hmm..on the other hand.. could be sinking..  this isn't exactly the dredging type of crane.. is it?  :-\

Possibly allready partly sunk and deserted, in trying to retrieve a broken off spud of dredger Aquarius in the Sethusamudram project..

Dredger damage delays Sethusamudram project
News - February 1, 2007
LR-Fairplay reports that work on India’s US$435 million flagship Sethusamudram Ship Canal Project has stalled after a dredger was damaged.
"Worse, a floating crane sent to retrieve the spud that broke off cutter suction dredger Aquarius last week, while the vessel was trying to cut through the 29km Adams Bridge in the Palk Strait, has also broken and part sunk, according to officials involved in the project," said the report.
A second and larger 200-tonne capacity crane is being deployed from Vishakapatnam to retrieve both the sunken crane and the spud. But the project will be delayed by at least two weeks – and that could be optimistic, depending on how long it takes to repair the dredger.
