« on: February 15, 2009, 05:13:37 »

Ok as we all should know that the ss united states is the flagship of what this great country stood for and that she was one of the best maritime achievements of the 20th century if not the best. and i wanted to give an idea that to give a donation to the rebuilding of this mighty vessel that we put it in the shipyard and do like that thing with hollandsglorrie thing you know i think we need help over here to. not to forget she is the fastest liner in maritime history.

I'm doing a video to upload onto Youtube to help save the "Big U" from ending her life in the scrapyard.

What exactly is going on with the SS United States? I've never really looked into the subject to be honest, she looks like a beautiful ship, very much my style, would be one of my favourites along with SS France :)

Jack, didn't you hear?  She's going to be scrapped next year.  There's a protest on Youtube to help save the S.S. United States.

Is there any official protest? As in, an organisation as such?

This would be awesome if this ship was saved! This thing can almost go as fast as the red jet.

Is it a wreck? Or what exactly happened to it? Are you allowed to get on it? Or near it?

She is parked next to an IKEA store in Philadelphia, and has been gutted of her furnishings.

The Malaysian-owned NCL had plans to put her in service between Hawaii and the west coast because she can qualify under the Jones Act.
However, those plans were abandoned and they are trying to sell her for scrap.

Shes a very beautiful ship-not currently. Is there any blueprints I can get a hold of?

William Gibbs designed a great hull that made her the fastest liner—beyond that, she is unremarkable.

Clearly. I wish cruise ships today could do her speed! She can hold a blue ribbon for 57 years! That is remarkable. So was that a yes or no about blueprints?

Thing is, due to copyright and all that sort of thing, Blue Prints are not easy to get hold of. You may have to settle for Model Boat plans that I could possably find for you, I know a place where I can get them from. You should be ok with them, they are managable for the real thing, just remember the scale of things, and all things may not be accurate
