I'm back from New York City (the Big Apple)
« on: February 13, 2009, 18:02:42 »

Guess what?

I am going to be on a school trip to New York City in May this year!!  ;D  This is real exciting for me since I have never been in the States before nor have left Canada's border.  We'll be leaving on May 6 and be back on May 10, 2009.  I've always wanted to go to New York because of it's connection with the ocean liners.  I really want to vist Pier 54. on the Hudson River where Lusitania departed for the final time and the White Star pier where Carpathia dropped off Titanic's passengers on April 17, 1912.

EDIT: I'm back from my trip; it was really great!!!  ;D

*Just kidding ;D. Off course only if it's YOUR wish to share.

I'll be there in June/July, after taking a train down from Boston. Probably be there for a week, one day is dedicated to meeting Master Captain (Keane). :p

I'm in Boston shortly. (Probably end of April). Have to go to Australia first, though. And then into Ontario.

May go to New York with my wife shortly, since she's from just across the river in NJ. It may only be for a weekend.

Cool, my Aunt & Uncle live in Pembroke, MA. They are the ones with the boat. :)

New York DC?

Even I know there isn't such a place.

Washington DC is so called to distinguish it from Washington, the state. DC stands for the district of Columbia.

District:  A partial of land laid out as a 10 mile square extending across the Potomac river and occupying land ceded in 1791 by Virginia and Maryland.

So, New York can't be "D.C.", since it's in the state of New York.

While you're there, also visit pier 60. That was formerly pier 59, where Titanic was headed!

If you can go to pier 54, Pier 60 is a short ways away further north.

Last where I checked on Google Earth, Pier 54. is not that far from the USS Interpid which is one of the places we'll be going to.  Maybe by luck, we'll stop and sightsee Pier 54.

Accurate movies is what we call an oxymoron ;D

Oddly enough, the word "oxymoron" itself is an oxymoron!
