Vista, Easy way to free up HD space.
« on: January 24, 2009, 09:02:34 »

--DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK--

Start > Search "Backup & Restore Center" > Click "Create a Restore point or Change Settings" on the left > It will load your hard drives, check C:\ (or your default hard drive) hit apply, then check it again, and hit apply.

This will delete all your restore points and should free up quite a bit of Hard Drive Space, it free'd up 20GB for me, one guy lost 300GB to this.

Don't do this if you install lots of things and are a risky person!

(Also works on older versions of Windows but Vista uses the most space)

But for goodness sake, MAKE A NEW RESTORE POINT IMMEDIATELY.

If somethng goes wrong later on, you'll be so glad that you can roll back to an earlier point when your PC worked, as opposed to wiping it all and reinstalling everything.

yea the risk factor is way to high, i'd rather loose space and be able to roll back than have more space and be out of luck if i have to reset :P

Also if your computer is new and store stock unlike mine which in my case is custom order,  you can eliminate bloat-ware as it is commonly know which is nothing more than that junk that the manufacturer pays the store to put on.

As much as I don't like things like the geek squad I would suggest just for the sake of time to have them do it for you in a few hours. :P
