I reckon he just rehearsed that little mistake...  I think he faked it, so the American public do not have to get used to a President with a proper attention-span right away..  :P

Just kiddin'

Anyway, congratulations on your new President, my American fellow forum members!

Considering the many nearly impossible problems he will inherit, his mistake was in showing up. Perhaps he should have sent Bush a note saying: “Unpack”.
I think if anyone can handle it, he can. I wish him luck.
It was a long time coming, but I think it has dispelled at least some of the negative feelings about the US.

I thought the Netherlands was a Monarchy.

We indeed don't have a President, we have a Prime-Minister. Like Britain, we have a Queen, who is merely a figurehead though. We're a 'constitutional monarchy'.

Our Queen is Queen Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard van Oranje-Nassau, our Prime Minister is called Jan-Peter Balkenende.

The members of parliament are voted for.

For me, I love the UK "transition". It is one of the most abrupt in the world. The instant that the voters decision is known, the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer leave 10 & 11 Downing Street, to be replaced by the new incumbents. (assuming they lost the election of course). The removal vehicles are always stood ready during a General Election.

Not like the carefully planned movement of Presidents in the USA.

Of course, we don't vote for a Prime Minister. he is simply the leader of the winning political party. He can be changed by a vote within that Party, without involving the electorate. The change from Toothy Blear and Grunty Brown being an exmaple. (Sorry. I meant Tiny Blair and Gordon Brine, didn't I?). They sliced it up between themselves, told the party sheep how to vote, and hey presto, instant new Prime Minister.

One way in which our transitions are accomplished in a better manner than in the UK:
During the inauguration ceremony, someone changes the sheets in the White House.

Rofl! They send the monkeys into clean the place up. Beer bottle out of the trash can in the oval office! By the end there would just be bottles of tequila (to-kill-ya) in there though...

Guys Obama was not the one that made the mistake, he had his words down, the guy saying the words for obama to repeat messed up, and Obama was like "what did they change the oath and not tell me?"

Because even after he finnaly said it, he didn't repeat the guy.

At the end of the day, they're just politicians. Only difference is Obama knows how to work the public approximately 1,000,000 times better than our (Britain's) current leaders. Add to that the fact that they all look like sleazy (expletive of choice), and I've got no motivation to vote because they're all the same. Before someone corrects me on that, I do know the differences, just making a point. :)

EDIT: Congratulations to the yanks here though, he seems like a decent guy. I'll be honest though and say, on a comedic level, I'll miss Bush. There's been many shows on tv over here over the last few weeks, showing his gaffes. I've got to be honest, some of them truly made me howl and I'll miss him for that. That's easy for me to say though because I'm across the pond, and am not affected by it!
