I like the mooring ropes... like it's going to float off somewhere.

Oh, right... Was it moored in Liverpool/Birmingham/London/Bedford then?

For residents of these Cities/Towns, please disregard whichever offends.

Fair play to the skipper for managing to float his boat in such shallow water.

Youd do realise that the ship was due to be scrapped thats whu shes there

No, I didn't mmmmm. I do appreciate you telling me. It has come as a complete shock. To think I didn't spot all that rust, the lack of deck equipment and all the hull doors missing.

Perhaps they only tied it up then to stop all the travellers knicking the scrap  :-\

You do realize that he doesn't realize anything?? :P
That's a bit like Ronnie Biggs complaining about rail travel. Or Tony Blair complaining that Holidays in Afghanistan aren't what they were...

>:(
Relax, mmmmmmm. I know you were trying to be helpful. Perhaps people extracting the urine from you should really consider some of their own posts elsewhere... So don't take offence.

Well, as long as it doesn't tip over or the water goes 'over the edges and inwards', I reckon the weight of the ice pushes the boat further down, displacing more water and more water discplacement equals more buoyancy. But I'm no expert on that Archimedes stuff.  ;D

It does depend a little on the surface area of the hull on the water... LucAT is the person to ask for all the mathematical equations to work out maximum loading on a hull.

(I will just nod and say, "yes. I understand you".. :D)

I think that a large build up of ice increases the top weight of the boat/ship which raises the centre of gravity and in extreme cases the boat/ship will capsize. I am sure that is the way that many trawlers in northern waters are lost.

Oh yes, one only needs to look to extremes... A cargo ship can carry X000 containers- try sticking them on a rowing boat and see what happens.

I'm sure there is a mathematical formula of (mass*hulltype / waterdensity+temperature)*42 +Luc constant= maximum cargo load...

Icing can really be a pain in the butt! The 'Vertical Centre of Gravity' (VCG) increases due to the extra weight on top which has effect on the 'metacentric height' (GM). The vessel can roll over because of icing.
