« on: July 23, 2007, 13:04:15 »

Hello,

for everybody who haven't seen yet, here it is... the hovercraft for a virtual travel from Portsmouth to Ryde like in reality.

Available in the upcoming upgrade expected in September.

Until now no other Hoverports are planned. If you are looking to the ports of Portsmouth and Ryde you can see the special ports where hovercrafts can land and these ports are used by "Hovertravel" which you can see on the picture above.

Maybe an administrator of this forum can give more details about the actual state of this hovercraft... I'm also hopeful that the dynamics are realistic as they should be.  :)

Has any lucky developer got a video of this in action (on water as opposed to the model video I remember seeing)?

Thanks!

You talk about an upgrade ??  Will it be an upgrade which we have to pay for ? Or will it  be an regular patch of this Game ?

There are no hovercrafts any more since a few years running between Dover and Calais! Well, and the new one for the Sim is much, much smaller than the good old channel hovercrafts!

Ahh I remember the days of the SRN6 hovercrafts from Southampton to Cowes.  The southampton terminal was on the north side of the River Itchen near the Bridge.  I think the Cowes Terminal was not far from the current Red Funnel Car terminal near the hanger with the Union Flag painted on the front (but I may be wrong).

Btw, the inventor of the Hovercraft was Sr Christopher Cockeral and he lived just down the road from where I grew up in Hythe, near Southampton.

A quick off topic point:
And since hoverspeed chopped the profitable hovercraft and made everyone go on the seacat (which despite the speed rarely docked before the P&O leaving at the same time)- what has happened? Hoverspeed is no more.

Just a quick point I thought I'd make. For no reason.

According to google there are three places in Britain called Hythe.

Where the third one is, I couldn't tell you.

I know the Kent hythe quite well. Got a superb little railway running through it. (Romney, Hythe, Dymchurch Railway for those who don't know) 1/4 scale... More reliable and punctual than mainline!

Hi Stu,

The Hythe near Southampton is shown on the ShipSim Charts - all be it not spelt correctly - Hyth - but what's an e between friends  ;D You can find it on the south western side of southampton water opposite the itchen river.

There is a ferry that runs from the Hythe Pier to Town Quay in Southampton, next to the real Red Jet Terminal.

I havn't been to Hythe in Kent for years and years, quite a nice place if I remember.

Rgds
