High Wind Warning
Statement as of 8:28 PM EST on November 15, 2008
Expires 1:00 AM EST on November 16, 2008
... High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 am EST Sunday...
A High Wind Warning remains in effect until 1 am EST Sunday.
The warning area covers much of northern Rhode Island and coastal
eastern Massachusetts.
Reports of winds between 45 and 60 mph along with trees and wires
down have forced an upgrade of the Wind Advisory for much of
northern Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts from Providence
to Boston.
This is a fairly dangerous situation. Be prepared for travel delays
due to pockets of downed trees and wires through this warning area.
There will probably be spotty structural damage and a wind gust to 65
mph is not out of the question between now and 1 am.
Stay clear of downed wires.
This is going to be a very difficult night of travel for high
profile vehicles... especially on east west routes such as the
mass Turnpike and Interstate I 195.
Strongest winds will occur between 9 PM and midnight... especially
near heavy showers.
A High Wind Warning is issued when sustained winds of 40 mph are
expected for at least an hour... with gusts of 58 mph or greater
at any time. Damage to trees... power lines... and property are
possible with wind of this magnitude. Power outages are likely.
Take action now to secure any loose outdoor objects
